KMOL/NBC Commercial Breaks, 8/17/1989

Commercial breaks taken from episodes of "The Cosby Show" and "A Different World", as well as part 4 of the syndicated miniseries "The Thorn Birds" on United Television NBC affiliate KMOL-TV in San Antonio, Texas (now Sinclair's WOAI-TV).

As mentioned in the last upload, KMOL was notorious for pre-empting NBC programming during this time, replacing "lower-rated" NBC programs with alternative programming, usually movies, but sometimes syndicated miniseries such as this one (KMOL frequently pre-empted NBC during summer months throughout the 1980s for repeats of "The Thorn Birds" which apparently proved popular with local audiences according to newspaper articles from the time period).

This night, KMOL was pre-empting "Cheers", the very short-lived "FM", and "L.A. Law" to bring you this special presentation of "The Thorn Birds". As usual, they were inconsistent with covering up the promos for these. Some slipped through, but they did dump out of network (or muted the network's voiced over promos during credits) when mentions of that night's Cheers or FM airings were aired.

Once their longtime program director retired in 1994, KMOL at that point pretty much ceased pre-empting the NBC network on a regular basis, only doing so for breaking news and the occasional special presentation.
