Making String the Bushcraft Way - Tree Bark Cordage

preview_player
Показать описание
How to make cordage or string from tree bark: I use the inner bark from an elm tree to make this string. It is an ancient technique mastered by so-called primitive man. Also it's quick and easy to learn!

From time to time there will be material on my Patreon page that you won't find here on this Youtube channel.

Even though you’re not a native English speaker, this video is 100% better than any other native speaker could make. It’s straight, simple and to the point. Exactly what I want in a YouTube video. Keep up the good work!

Your English is really good. I wish that I could speak Norwegian, but for some reason my brain is not able to learn languages. My great grandmother used to read to me her Bible in both Norwegian and then translate in English. She helped raise me until I was nearly 12 years old. Only a couple words stayed with me, but many of recipes, sagas, and such continue to be a part of my life. This is why I appreciate your videos so much. It is connecting with that part that I miss so dearly. Thank you Bjorn. If I could read your books, I would have them all purchased by now. Stay well my friend.

If you don't want to hurt a tree ;O), you can use nettle fibers. The leafs are a good side dish with your steak, and the fibers of the stem are very strong. (The seeds by the way are full of protein, minerals and vitamins). Rgds from lower saxony

Making cordage is a very nice activity to do in camp, it is not very laborious so when it is too hot to be outside, you can stay in the shade, by the tree and braid some cordage. Very nice.

Thanks for the lesson. I'll have to try this out when I go camping this spring. I like to think I know enough about bushcraft to survive in the forest but it occurred to me the other day that I didn't know how to make string/rope. Cordage, in my opinion, is one of the most useful tools one can have in the woods. You can use it for everything from making shelter (lashing logs together) to making tools and bows.

Great idea for rope that won't negatively impact the forest if left behind. I would feel good using this on a structure that I plan on leaving up in the woods too. I'm going to try this in future campsites! Thanks, Bjorn! Have a great weekend!

I’m going to be trying this out like most things you show. I want to be able to pass these on to my grandsons and even my son and daughter even though they in there 20’s. But due to my break up with wife due to my ptsd they where younger. They love learning any Bush things I show them. But oldest grandson getting towards 10 and loves his poppa (me) lol. Keep being the videos. I did send my ancestry info from Matthew Setright I hope you enjoyed my Viking roots.

I never knew that cordage could be made with Elm, I've tried it with nettles but your method looks more efficient and less labour intensive .Thanks for showing us a versatile skill Bjørn.
