WHY do I use this instead of the Alpine Butterfly? I cover this in my full YT video (and comparison in a pinned comment there) !! Check it out!

You won't believe how many videos describing ascenders and descenders and chest harnesses I had to wade through to get to this. "I have a rope, and I want to climb a tree - what do I do?" This video answers it without distractions. Just pure gold!

Fun fact, the double dragon is considered to be one of the strongest knots, retaining over 95% of the rope’s strength

Beofre you climb the tree, tie your shoes and gear to the other line in a bag. You arent getting your boots into those loops, as those loops are easier in socks. You can then pulll your gear up, as long as you dont screw up the upper knot, like I always do. This is by far the absolute best explanation of this technique I've ever seen, but I was taught it with the alpine butterfly, which is not the way to go. And if you're weak like me, you may want work gloves on for the ascend. Stunningly simple, that 'double dragon, ' and I've never heard of it and I learned climbing the old way a long time ago now. Still learning. Thanks.

I imagine you can only tie inline "steps" while you are standing on the ground. So you need to setup enough steps before starting to clinb up. Probably BEFORE pulling the first ever knot up to the branch...

That's so cool thanks. Yes I'll need many more and repeat lessons on knot tying. Love this stuff. 100 percent logic.❤

Hmmm, I am thinking about trying to get my feet into those loops on the way back down. I can see a challenge there if you are climbing more than a couple of steps. I would choose to make a real rope ladder if I needed to climb high enough. This is a great tip!

Thats absolutely fantastic! I've been looking for this exact solution for a while now. Could you please tell me what you searched do discover this/other names for it so I can do more research? Or any books with these kinds of climbing techniques?

You can also couple this with arborist tree climbing cleats and other rope techniques to scale up even higher. Maybe set up a permanent ladder with more rigidity too. Also if its a dark colored rope it can be like a hidden shelter up there, tie your self to the tree like Hunger Games etc when sleeping on ground is dangerous.

And to climb back down you can tie more rope up and grab that to be have a hand hold when placing your feet back on the very top rungs. Or a rope around the tree trunk to use as a hand hold for that inital descent. Really great video! Ive seen people make rope spider net tree shelters im very interested in!

That’s the first interesting trick with rope. I’ve seen in 20 years.

So, once the first loop is up the tree, how do you make more on your way up above what you can reach from the ground? It's kinda hard to tie a knot in a rope under tension. I'd suggest a noose to get it over the branch after creating the ladder, then tying the other end around the base of the tree with some double half hitches. That way, you've got loops as high as you need them, a weighted end to throw without it getting snagged, and a way to untie the whole thing from the base.

where is the full video?
is it that hard to include a link in the description?

I imagine you could also secure yourself to the loops with a carabiner as you ascend, shifting it upwards with each step, just in case you'd slip.
