Well now I know. If I need extra space it's cheaper and quicker to tear off the roof and add another floor than to dig down.

As someone who is not rich, wealthy, or has a crawlspace under there home ---- Do not do this unless its more expensive to move. If your current home is not worth more than $300/sq.ft. dont even think about it. If you have not paid off your house yet, do not think about it. Once you are ready to drop another $250-500k on the basement, go house hunting and double check if its not worth it to just move. That being said, if you are already making $500k/year then you dont even watch these videos and already have basements.

Great video. Good production and really appreciate you being up front about costs.

You know what this could be pitched as? For homeowners that have restrictive zoning boards or HOA's - hey, if they won't let you go out or up, how about down? Thanks for being straightforward, especially about cost.

310/sqft for this is downright absurd and insulting, unless you are in California or some other extremely high cost location. In the Midwest, this would cost 50-60/sqft, including waterproofing. Don't hire a general contractor! Hire a company that actually employs the guys doing the work and owns the equipment. Do your research, check references far and wide before choosing a contractor.

I was debating this, until the cost estimate came out higher than the value of my home haha! Cheaper to install a 3rd floor I think!

Someone local to me had a nice old home with no basement and a deep backyard. They dug and poured a new basement foundation right behind the house and slid the house on top of the new foundation.
Primary reason for this method was the road was being widened and they didn't want the house so close to the new sidewalk.
Not sure if that's and easier or less expensive way, but they had it done in less than a month.

I have a house with a small addition that was added by the previous owner. It’s an addition for the living room. Roughly 10x12. Under neath the addition is a crawl space about 4ft of height. Is there a range of what I can expect to pay for excavation & foundation to have it at level with the main house basement?

I’m thinking of digging under the house since the crawlspace ground is hella uneven. One end is 4 feet high, the other end is 7 feet high. I’m worried about the foundation sitting on that. Like the house belonged to my great grandparents and I want to improve it and make sure it doesn’t collapse on itself. Sucks how expensive it’ll be though

I've seen other companies just punch 10-15 steel I Beams through or underneath the crawl space, support them on the ends, & then raise it or dig it out underneath with a Mini X, no roof, or a Mini Skid steer. Do you ever use that technique. I own a hardscape company and we have to lower the grade underneath existing decks and sometimes the back of the basement foundations. But we have never done anything like what you guys do.

So short resume of numbers and terms and questions for clarifying.
900 feet basement cost $279, 000 ÷ 4 months = $69, 750 per month, $2, 325 per day if work 30 days a month, or about $3, 321 per day if work 21 days a month. From 3 to 6 workers. Digging out dirt about 3 weeks by 2 workers.
I know prices for rental equipment, dumpsters, material cost and how long purring (and getting strength) concrete takes. But i just want to know how much your workers get paid for this job? Working on own house with basement, just really want to hear how you calculated the cost.

I have about 6 inches in my crawl space and just want to get a vapor barrier! I’m gonna pay a group of young backs $1 a bucket. Support as I go until I have appox 2.5 feet to at least belly slide around, wish me luck

We insert steel beams (pin type penetration) and support the entire structure being excavated. Create access ramp and excavation for a dingo to create a runway deep enough and track enough for a small bobcat. (We have used a dingo and conveyor that takes it right onto the lowboy dump which gets placed on site and removed later). New footings and 12" CMU run-up to elevation. new waterproof system inside and out and finished concrete floor. Total 6 weeks. Parge the outside walls and waterproof backfill with 3/4" clean crushed stone (northern climes to prevent heaving) for the first 6 ft/ geo textile fabric cover then soil. Grade and remove excess soil. $98k....20 x 25.

4:23 I got to figure out how much it costs in my area. That's going to be costly. I hate dealing with a crawlspace right now.

at $300/SF you're better off knocking down the house and building from scratch.

$310 a square foot? That's insane.
