Before Rhianna and Pat McGrath, Iman started an all inclusive cosmetics company, I absolutely loved her stuff. What a great idea for a video. Now I want a vintage powder compact !

Bésame is a great vintage makeup company. They have the old pancake mascara that is actually wonderful, and their lipstick is to die for!

Loved this as I was a history major in college. I also remember using some of these older products when in my teens. Please keep doing them. My grandmother who was born in 1896 had two older sisters (born 1886 & 1888). She remembered her sisters using red tinted rice paper for rouge and lip stain. Of course, if their father ever questioned the pink flush to their faces, the girls usually came up with some story. I would love to see makeup trends/looks for the Gay Nineties and up to WWI. This would have been the eve of the final push of the suffragette movement as well as when women entered the workforce replacing men who had gone off to war.

Please do the history of classic brands (Covergirl, Maybelline, Revlon, etc.)

I heard the Maybelline name originated from the creator applying mascara to his sister Mabel and Vaseline was used ( in mascara??) He combined the names and created Maybelline!!!!

I love this! You should compile all of this into a book, with beautiful still photos from your videos. I would buy it!!!

I’m sure you’ve watched Lisa Eldridge’s history of makeup series, but for anyone who hasn’t, look it up immediately. The tour of compacts alone is unbelievable. Thank you for all the research on this subject! We all appreciate such interesting videos! Much love from Canada! 😘❤️🇨🇦

In the 70s my grandmother and my mother were Avon representative, most black women got their makeup from Avon because the stores didn't have anything in their shade.

I read an article once that talked about how different makeup colors were used in B&W film. Contour with purple or gold for lips.

Zabrena, thank you for all of the research you did and for uploading this video! I learned a lot and recognized some products too. My Mom was born in 1918 and she treasured the compacts that she saved from her Mom and her Grandmother. When I saw the compacts you showed, I actually teared up. Thanks! One of the strongest memories I have is the aroma of my Mom's lipstick and Coty face powder when she'd hug and kiss me before going out with my Dad - they didn't call it date night, but it was! I appreciate you more than words can express! 💜🙏🏜️

I love these videos; so interesting. I'm a history nerd 😁
Just a thought; maybe women wouldn't apply lipstick after dinner because a "good woman" didn't have a need to go out at night; after dinner?
I love your videos; you have been one of my favorites for a long time 😘😘

A history of the brand kind of series would be so interesting! You could focus on one brand and tell about how was founded. Mention some of the bestselling products.

This series is why I started regularly tuning in. Love this series. 😁

This was so informative. I love the idea of a personalized compact that you can just replace the pan and keep the compact. It can redue plastic waste produce by cosmetics. Oh and we don't have great lash here unfortunately so might have to scour a bit to find it locally.

It was fascinating seeing all the different innovations and their timelines. I really was interested in the different kinds of compacts. I can remember playing in my great aunt’s make up in the 60s (I was born in 58 so I was young in the 60s) and she had the most fascinating powder compacts in her make up drawer and mascara that was a solid compact and had a little brush. You would wet the brush and brush it across that black pressed powder, then across your lashes, and that’s how you put on mascara. She also had what she called rouge. I can’t remember what the product looked like. I just remembered what she called it. I wonder when it went from rouge to blush? Watching this video brought back so many wonderful memories. Thank you Z!
