If I recall correctly:
Mathematically black holes are a result of one solution to the Einstein field equations, which are notoriously difficult to solve.
The guy who came up with this solution, Schwarzschild, used several (pretty significant) simplifications to make the equations more managable, which is also why his black holes are not rotating.

Einstein did not solve his field equations, cause they are a mathematical mess, one he was not equipped to deal with.
