Is it possible to be a musician and a minimalist? I want to find out.

For the past several years, I have consistently gotten rid of as much gear as possible. As a musician, that's a tall order. I live a pretty minimalist lifestyle in my normal life, but in my studio, well, things can be a bit different.

But how much gear do we really need? With all of the digital tools now available to us, do we really need every guitar, microphone, plugin, or any other of the hundreds of thousands of gear options out there?

I am on a quest to find out just how little I can get away with. I want to find out the answer to the question: can minimalism work for musicians?

Yes minimalism works great at least for me ;) I have one tube amp, torpedo captor load box, UAFX Woodrow 55 emulator, 2 guitars, one bass and lately I bought a set of Roland e-drums. So practical setup and makes me focus on making music. Cheers!

Coming from poverty and spending years wishing I had some musical instruments and a studio to record in, I now love buying new gear, building up my studio and improving my music but also I try to get the most from what I own and buy wisely. And yes I have more than one cable that belongs in the bin but I just can't throw them away...

I have a pretty minimal setup. Just my laptop, my daw, my keyboard, and my yeti microphone, and my sony studio headphones. And I honestly usually end up only using the daw and headphones because I can produce any sound I need digitally and mix from within my daw.

I use Acoustica Mixcraft as my DAW

All my music gear is 7 years old. 2 speakers, a mic w/stand, interface and a computer. That's all I use.

I have a laptop, a microfone, a headset, a keyboard, 2 guitars, 2 amplifiers, 2 ukuleles and 1 clarinet that I don't even play, If I could go back I would only have 1 instrument, the laptop and the headset which has a microfone in it. But it's to late, now I don't wanna get rid of them, even though I love the idea of extreme minimalism. I guess I'm still minimalist though, but not enough.

Your studio and my studio are complete opposites. You’re super minimalist and clean while mine is cluttered with anime figures and arcade machines lmao I will say though doing this and cleaning out the ol’ closet will relieve a lot of stress and make creating a bit easier

U need the basics to make the cake and then you need the topings of your liking. The Edge from u2 has his own and Steve Vai has his. Some S....T like that.

I want to be a minimalist, but I cant. I get distracted too easily.
