Elementary OS 6 | A Beautiful And Intuitive Distribution

elementary OS is a popular Ubuntu based distribution that uses the Pantheon desktop environment. They have just released their long awaited Odin release which I’ve been excited to use since it was announced. Some of the new features of this release are the multi touch gesture support for touch pads and screens, a new dark style and accent colours and a complete embrace of Flatpak applications in their AppCenter. Odin is based on Ubuntu 20.04.2 and ships with the Linux kernel 5.11.

Very nice, used the previous release for a couple of years then moved to Zorin. Both are almost good enough for the mainstream.

Checked this new version a minute after it was uploaded. It's beautiful and stable. But the store is still empty. Installation via CLI is ok though.

Great review on elementary os can you look into ChimeraOS previously GamerOS arch based gaming distro. Launches straight Into steam OS big picture mode.

The issue I have is that current users of Elementary cannot upgrade to this new version without doing a clean install. I have several applications with their config, etc. up and running the way I want. It's gonna take me some time to get all of that back to the state where I need them. Unfortunately, I'm going to stay with the previous version.

First thing is restoring gnome software common properties - don’t know why the idiots didn’t include it out of the box and the Pantheon Tweak tool isn’t included either. Needed to whip the operating system into decent shape. Folks will want to install Synaptic Package Manager to get all the goodies not visible by default. Firefox ESR and Thunderbird need the Ubuntu repository added and Libre Office is missing. EOS is one of those distros where newbie users have to fill in what’s needed in order to have a decent software collection to use it as a daily driver.

What I really miss is the support for system tray applications icons, like, for example, Dropbox... without that it's not straightforward to interact with such applications...
