As a DBT therapist, I find this summary really great, in its simplicity!

On what planet can one call their therapist. In Winnipeg, one has to be almost in a coma from an overdose to get help. In hospital for a week and thrown an entire binder of DBT to study, then couldn’t even get an appointment with the therapist at the hospital! So glad you mentioned my 2 favourite DBT tactics!

I have BPD and DBT has been an absolute lifesaver! I had been pushed into group therapy and CBT. I really disliked it. DBT though, as bad as it sounds, feel like it is all about me. Like real thorough care that's focused on me exclusively.
That and a great Psychiatrist have helped immeasurably!

Lol it doesn't really at work until you're so broken and open minded and willing and able to set boundaries without overwhelming feelings. If you're basically grown and wise, this will all make much more sense to be excited and willing to follow. Honestly I think the cure or betterment is being alone after a hard breakup, while not giving up on understanding all the aspects of yourself that play into your own dysfunction and being honest with yourself instead of trying to people please everyone else or being met out of loneliness.

Honestly I have realized that so called suffering will completely enlighten you. But it's not a over night thing. It takes so long but once you're there it's fkn bliss.

It doesn’t work for everybody, I’ve been in & out of therapy for YEARS, I’m still to find anything that can remotely help me out

Mildly Late onset DPD here (29), I think one of the reasons it took so long to get diagnosed was how helpful mindfulness has been for me in therapy over the years.

Wait. Hold up now! I got recently diagnosed with bpd and depression. The dr first started medication for depression and he said we're gonna take time and he's gonna teach me something to practise to help me better deal with all of this. So he might be talking about this. But what if I don't want to be mindful. I don't wanna be alone with my mind. I've done everything to cut off my mind. I maybe being overreacting but this hit me suddenly and it scares me.

I dislike medications that are misleading and give you side effects and things you kind of go out of control with on your own but then it kind of trips you up to feel like you're having a personal personality disorder in an area of things that you went through but you letting go of those things but then the trauma that went along with it but these medicines are just as worse as the disorder that someone would have but you need to maintain your mindset and what you're thinking but then when you're going through that a plan who you can go to that you trust

i've been doing all these subconsciously, i now see why everything's worse when i don't keep it up

Medications are not helpful to personality disorders. DBT is more in line with a proper treatment as it teaches the person the skills needed to manage and maintain mood and delusional beliefs of abandonment. Being able to recognize the issue before making it worse via escapism is key.

Why don't people ask those diagnosed with bpd what could help? They are most aware of their body and know themselves best, and contrary to the stigma snd stereotype, are aware that their emotional response is different than others. Labeling and disagnosing has not shown to be helpful as it causes people massive issues such as staying stuck in their label, struggle to find and keep work, housing and relationships and more! Also the term bpd is considered offensive and there are still mass amounts of stigma in health care and other 'professional' organizations around it including in non-profits and more...which may need to change if anyone wants to see life improved

I find that DBT is good but it's really hard to stay consistent with the practices. At least it feels hard for me.

1. Quit alcohol/drug use. Weed too.
2. Reclaim your mindfulness, health, wealth

Win. 🏆

Ehh as a BPD that seems so half hearted … get a good nights sleep? Text your therapist ? Being mindful of your condition, knowing your triggers, and positioning yourself to avoid your triggers is the only way. You can t physically rearrange your brain at this point.
