You've gotta go back to where Waltz talks about the Apache's and other people trying to follow him or catch up with him . Soo his house is close to the Salt River. He walks in north of the River and comes through steep inclines and rugged areas where few people can get through due to it's ruggedness. He said that the one way trip always takes him about an hour or so to get to the mine. In my own strength and conditioning while walking in mountains I can probably treck roughly 2 to 3 miles through mountains in about an hours time if I'm always moveing forward. Soo from his residence I think his mine is roughly 2 and a half miles north east of it.

Think about it the gold is from the Lord God who created it in the first place, it gets dug out of the ground and then goes back into the ground i.e. vaults / safes in the form of plates, coins, bars and bricks.
