Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel's renewed military pressure in Gaza is aimed at forcing Hamas to agree to a new deal and release hostages. But many Palestinians fear the buffer zone is the first step toward an Israeli occupation.
The UN has issued a stark warning, saying Israel's actions risk destroying "the future viability of the Palestinians as a group" in Gaza.

DW News should avoid interviewing Olmert because he has no credibility inside Israel or outside. 6:00 Olmert says"1000 Israeli pilots signed a letter protesting against the continuation of the war". This is false. The truth is that only 3 were active pilots and they have been dismissed from the IAF. 900 signatories are retired do not currently serve at all. Others have non-combat roles. The truth is that they were signing to prioritize the return of hostages, not protest the war. Olmert is badly delusional and DW made a mistake giving him a platform to spread disinformation without being contested.

If Hamas really wanted the suffering of Gazans to end, they would have released all the hostages within the first week of conflict. But they didn't, they played for time, because they knew that the west cannot watch the suffering of Gazans and they would put pressure on Israel to stop, well the pressure was not sufficient, so Gazans died and Hamas held on to the hostages. So if any one wants to blame someone for the suffering of Gazans over the past Year+, blame Hamas.

A two state solution after 20, 000 orphans and thousands of amputees were *created* is a symptom of dissociation from reality and a severe dislocation from all norms. The break from international law is untenable. Germany and EU countries would need to find a backbone because the cost of amoral conduct just grows and grows. Look at who funded hamas to figure out how we got here. Then figure out where the buck stops. And who'll need to think about that for the rest of their lives.
