Here is a super fast and easy way to make an anvil stand. It'll work for now and gets me going on smashing hot steel!

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:

Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.

Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

I have a very similar pair of cutters my fathers company was discarding after a handle broke. He brought them home and welded a piece of pipe on. Think he's had em for over 30 years now and they still work a treat!

Good job on the quick and easy stand. Mine is made from a 24x12 piece from a house build. The owner has one beam this size running the entire length of their house

Nice. My stand is a 5$ pine log. works great 😊 Can't wait to see you forging.👍

You will want to further dress at least a length of one of the edges to a more rounded profile. This will allow you a better spot for set-downs and such. Too sharp a transition invites cracking in your work piece. Technicus Joe (Joey Van der Steeg) did a really good video on the subject of dressing an anvil; really worth a watch.
Cheers!

Always wondered why some anvils had chains wrapped around them. Great tip!

I made my anvil stand from scrap lumber I had laying around. Very similar to the one you made, but more a mixture of 4x4, 2x8, 2x4, etc.

2:50 So true I was working for my dad on a sight for a house and we found a perfectly fine table saw!

Heavy wooden or welded plate box. Fill with sand. Add a metal plate, place anvil. Cheap, massive and infinitely adjustable. I add sand up to the anvil waist -- kills a lot of the ring. Seal the top to keep sand from dancing out...

I've actually used a small piece of rebar to do the same thing. I ran it through the pritchel hole and it took a lot of the ring out. Might be an issue with some anvils though.

What is the height that you measured your 2x8's to? I have heard that you can add magnets to the anvil to reduce the ring as well. Great video!!!

I have fount putting a semi-strong magnet under the horn KILLS the ring. Very interested to see the science behind why that one is.
