WAGC3 - Diesel ( ALCO ) Locomotive converted into Electric Locomotive : Indian Railways

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video, we will see the ALCO ( probably WDG3A ) turned into a 3600 HP Electric Locomotive. So total HP will be 7200 and not 6000 hp as mentioned in the video.

The WDG4 12018 is expected to come out as 5000 hp Electric locomotive.

Credits to DLW staff for sharing the WAGC3 video
Train in the video is 56227/KSR Bengaluru - Shivamogga Town Passenger with KJM WDP4
Location : Malleswaram

After testing, even if IR decides not to go ahead with mass production of converted locos for now, I think it's a good step from an indigenous research and engineering perspective. They are developing new in-house capabilities which can be used later when the Alcos reach end of life. So we should not be so negative about this initiative.

3:25 When you said ending video with this departure, that's when it occurred to me that EMDs too will 'depart' into history, later if not sooner..

then as it notched up at 3:50, it felt as if these EMDs are notching up into history, getting converted into AC zombies, departing away from us EMD fans forever. Though not intended to be that way, this was kind of emotional, hit me hard in the feels :'(

This is a single unit that will be combined with another same unit, the combined unit capable of producing 10, 000hp.

Sir, the locomotive is actually converted Loco from diesel to electric. Actually what you see in the video is one unit of 5000 hp. Then two will be joined together to give 10000 hp power

Having seen the huge sparks coming out of pantogrphs (I think you also had a video some time ago), I thought electric and diesel loco will not be coupled as 1, 2 due to fire hazard. Maybe IR now feels fire is not a big danger. This could be called a hybrid engine just like a hybrid car. I would have preferred one end electric engine, the other end Diesel engine with 22 coaches in the middle. Diesel engines will never be obsolete because of war(border and north east will need backup even if electricity is lost), power grid failures and thrust produced by diesel per Re/$ of fuel is greater than electric(ie. diesel can tug heavier loads at faster speeds per cost unit than electric). Given the addition of pollution factor, however, diesel becomes less competitive.

This is absolutely essential... No matter what people might criticise this... IR require this a lot... Hope IR will bring out more such locos

Natarajan, your analogy of cat + dog is absolutely logical and hilarious at the same time. The most sh!tty looking hybrid loco that has ever been developed, that too by IR. At least they could have provided a cabin on the other end of long hood as WAM-4 or WAG-5/7 has. I don't know, what for these locos are developed??? In the coming next years, we the railfans know that CLW are and producing only WAP-5 & 7's. Even DLW has developed a WAP-7. Why wastage of Govt.

Nice. Very informative, but looks odd at the end of long hood.

Dual mode locomotives are the solutions now....as it can operate with diesel and electric...

i think u made this video in hurry to just upload it without getting in detail of this locomotive and project. Loco is converted to generate 5000 hp each and two this kind will be mued together.
This is also the main reason to make as single cab

NCS, i wud suggest ask IR thru RTI, you wud get info about the plan (you must ve thought).

The loco looks really weird. At least they could've made it dual cab(Alco) with two pantos. Like the middle portion of WAM sandwiched between two SHF Alcos.

That locomotive only to work short wood side. One thing sure. If the non electric line may not their it may work as disel. But our L. P. S are now a day need duel cab. Just like. P. U. Venakatesh.

Its completely ridiculous cat and dog comparison is epic

This is not about looks or power. Piyush goyal current rail minister want to do complete electrification of rail lines by 2020 and phase out all diesel locomotives by 2027. Ge diesel locomotives will be only used as backups in future. Government want to manufacture ETCS level 2 signalling in mass scale and install it in complete 60000km length. This will help efficiency of railways by 45% as gap between each train reduces to only 5 minutes and improve safety to european standards. With ETCS we will get additional benifit of wifi lines stretching all over railways which can be further used to install mass CCTV cameras to monitor trains and railway stations.
