Wow, at first I was disappointed to see a live version, but what a performance on a very demanding song. Nice to see wonderful lady listening to '60s Psychedelic rock.

Because of Jim's antics on (and off) stage, especially after the Miami Incident, no one would book the Doors. No one trusted what would happen. PBS of all places let them perform, pre-taped and with NO audience. It was edited and then aired on PBS. As it stands, this was one of the few times Jim was sober in those days and it really is in his top 3 best performances of all time. I am glad PBS gave them the chance and I am VERY glad it was recorded. "The Soft Parade" song is a great 3 part suite by one of the best bands of all time. The entire concert is available on DVD/Blu-Ray on Amazon & Ebay.

Great band that had a lot of great psychedelic rock songs with poetic lyrics, and an ethereal, dreamlike sound. This one is difficult to interpret because it has a lot of twists and turns, symbolism, and seems to be expressing different things. I think this song is about disillusion with religion, and the values of his generation. It is also about a search for something else. In the beginning of the song he says "Petition the Lord with prayer 3 times, then shouts loudly "You CANNOT petition the Lord with prayer" which indicates one of the things he was disillusioned by. I enjoyed listening to your reaction, and generally was very impressed with what you got out of the song.
