I love this scene, the shadow looms over his sleeping face and he's awoken to her beautiful face and the way Hitchcock portrays this haze of romance is surreal. For all the suspense and terror that could come from Hitchcock, I'm just fascinated how he would delve into romance and love and portray it so elegantly. Times have really changed, people used to be so respectable.

I first saw this movie in 1984-ish with a friend... had to drag him there... he loved it... as did I... can still remember his ‘out loud’ reaction when Lisa’s face first appears on screen.... ‘Holy shit... she is beeootiful’... he was was not wrong... this began a lifetime of watching Hitchcock films....

I would not describe Grace Kelly's voice as a husky whisper. It's soft and 100% feminine.

Further analysis of the scene. As she says her name, Lisa (head shot), Carol (mid shot), Fremont (full body shot).

I honestly love the camera work in this scene.

When he says "who are you", it doesn't mean she's putting all the effort and he's pulling away at all, if anything, she's the one who pulls away from the shot. It actually is a flirtatious way to say "you look so beautiful, I don't even recognise you", and she plays along of course.

I think Lisa is tired of the assumption of who she is. Even though Jeff makes those same assumptions, she at the end proves what she’s made of. Sure she’s a socialite but, is in love with Jeff because he is not, he’s real. He in turn thinks he’s not worthy of her.

That’s not Grace on the mag cover/negative. It just represents one of the types of photos he takes in the setup as to who he is.

That's not actually Grace Kelly on the cover of that issue of Life Magazine. It's actually Doris Day. It was an actual Life Magazine cover on stands at the time they were shooting the movie.

I love how Lisa just looms in like that
She really gives off that playful but loving vibe

It's not Grace Kelly on the cover of the magazine that's supposed to look like an issue of Life Magazine. It's also not Doris Day as some people suggest. My guess it's a woman who was working as a model at the time, and who was basically anonymous to the general public then and as well as today.

I'm not always a fan of Kelly. Maybe I've seen more of her earlier films than her later ones. Maybe she is suited to certain parts and not others, or maybe it depends on the writing of the character. But she is terrific in 'Rear Window' and 'The Country Girl'. Lisa is a very charming, smart and spirited woman and Kelly is really engaging in the part.

That is an old misunderstanding. It is NOT Lisa on the magazine

1:29 how you pray for the camera to linger on her face coming close, but Hitch yanks us away...kicking and screaming. THEN 1:36 feels like water to a parched man!

that picture on the cover does not look like Lisa Fremont (or Grace Kelly)! come on! I think it's just to show he shoots fashion sometimes too and has a sense of humor with the framed negative.
