How To Manage Hyper-V Server 2019 From A Non-Domain Windows Client

There are times where you might need to manage a domain joined Hyper-V server from a non-domain joined client, such as in a home lab or in a test environment. Sadly, it isn't a simple as launching the Hyper-V Manager on your client and connecting to your host. Thankfully, it isn't all that complicated either. You just need to take a few steps in the right order in order to make the to systems communicate.

Prerequisites include:
Client
- Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise
- Hyper-V Manager Installed
- Windows PowerShell 5.1
- Hyper-V PowerShell Module

Server
- Hyper-V Server 2019

If you're having trouble because you're using a workgroup, just use "Hostname.WORKGROUP" and do his steps. Then in hyper v manager connect to server with "Hostname.WORKGROUP" and no user set. Worked for me that way

Could you do one of these with the hyper V host set to Workgroup mode and not in a domain? This one host was in domain and workstation was not in domain.

I skipped the hosts file part because I have my own DNS but apparently this is necessary!!! also I had to enter this on the hyper-v server "Enable-WSManCredSSP -Role server"
