How To Remove A Lori Single Cylinder Deadbolt | Mr. Locksmith™ Video

Lori Deadbolt locks can be confusing to remove for experienced and new locksmiths too. You will need a 5/16-inch long-shaft Allen wrench to remove the Mortice Cylinders from the lock housing.

Lori deadbolts, manufactured by Ilco Industries and use mortised deadbolts available in both thumb turn and double cylinder models. Removing the Lori deadbolt to re-key or replace the lock not difficult if you have the proper Allen Wrench.

1 - Open the door.

2 - Remove the deadbolt faceplate from the door edge by removing the two flathead screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

3- Remove the thumb latch assembly from the interior side of the door, if applicable, by removing the two screw bolts on either side of the latch handle, then pulling the assembly horizontally from the door.

4 - Insert the long shaft of a 5/64-inch Allen wrench into the space on either side of the slide bolt to engage in the cylinder set screws and turn the set screw counterclockwise two to three full turns to loosen. Repeat for the set screw on the other side of the slide bolt if it is a double cylinder deadbolt.

5 - Remove the deadbolt cylinder(s) by turning the cylinders counterclockwise until the cylinder is free of the mortise housing. Insert the deadbolt's key halfway into the cylinder for leverage in turning the cylinder. Repeat for the opposite side cylinder in double-keyed models

6 - Remove the slide bolt assembly from the door edge, then remove the cylinder housing from the door hole.
In this video, Terry guides you through the process of rekeying a Lori/Kabe Ilco single cylinder deadbolt. He explains common confusions around the lock, such as the ability to use any mortise cylinder, and provides detailed steps to remove and rekey the mortise cylinder using an Allen wrench. He also shares tips and cautions for dealing with potential issues like rusted set screws and misused tools. Watch for a comprehensive understanding of handling this particular deadbolt lock, and be sure to subscribe for more locksmith training videos.

The only thing I would say on your video which was quite informative as it would be very helpful to a lot of people if you would tell them what size Allen key is required to remove that setscrew

So what deadbolt would you recommend to carry that is as universal that you can swap out the cylinders to different keyways? It’s really a great concept but theres definitely flaws. Would be nice to not have to carry a hundred different deadbolts with different finishes and keyways.

Thanks for this video. I need to remove an old old (1955) Lori single cylinder deadbolt on my door for which the key has been long gone. I got the cylinder out, but cannot get the inside thumb-turn out. There are no screws that I can see on the inside of the door. Any ideas?

Along with don't cross thread the cylinder, don't put it in crooked then crank down hard on the setscrew. I've had cylinders that are very difficult to get out and reinstall because some idiot seriously mangled the threads.
