As a real estate investor who owns several hundred properties, there's one issue I frequently run into: people illegally living in my homes without consent, and trying to take advantage of 'squatter's rights' to avoid any legal trouble. This is how to deal with squatters in your property and what to do if you find a squatter.

Idk why people would feel sorry for them, they're literally going out of their way to ruin and technically steal your property, i have sympathy for those in need but not those who steal and believe they're in the right

Squatters rights is definitely an oxymoron

I was held hostage in my own home by professional squatters. I now have a law suit against the city for violating my civil rights as a tax payer.

No jail, no charges, no fines, no consequences...AND an owner who's likely to pay these junkies to get out of their property...soo frustrating 😡

If people faking leases got 10 years in prison it would largely stop

Hell would freeze over before I would pay squatters to leave my property.

I love all the comments about the squatters possibly being the ones getting screwed over. Some of y’all just wanna see the best in people instead of realizing some humans are just pieces of garbage.

I never feel sorry for squatters. They are as bad as renters, who move in, and stop paying rent, after breaking something, then saying I refused to fix it. My husband and I bought a few properties, and fixed them up, to rent. When we rented to one woman, and her 6 year old, we felt badly for her. We gave her reduced rent, and our mistake was not going out there, to check on it. She was renting out rooms. I couldn't believe the mess, which was not cosmetic.

I DO NOT feel sorry for squatters.. They shouldn't have any rights, after squatting.

My friend went to he hunting store bought 20 skunk spray cans and sprayed them all over the house, turned on loud scary music at night and smoked inside to get squatter out. Worked well!

If you start paying them to leave your property, they will just come back and expect you to pay again.

When I sold my family's vacant home, I kept the security system. If they break in and the alarm system goes off it is a Penal Code, 'breaking and entering, ' and the police must arrest them. Having a no trespassing sign clearly posted also give police the authority to arrest them for a penal code violation. The monthly fee for the security alarm service was worth every penny. I also paid a neighbor across the street to keep an eye on the property and turn heat on in winter time and a/c on in summer. I paid another neighbor to keep the grass cut. It was well worth it. We never had a squatter issue. I don't understand why more property owners don't invest in a security system.

I'm not a drug addict. I was retired from the sheriff's office. I got scammed, I moved in then four days later neighborhood watch came to my door, " who are you" I showed them my lease and they told me this person is not the owner. You need to move out. I ended up in a shelter list my pets, it was hard.

"...Nobody has to go to jail and nobody has to get in trouble..."

This is the part I don't understand. They were not there legally. The stole good or services. This is theft. Why don't the convict folks like this? If they did, then perhaps they and other wouldn't go an do this again.

I inherited my pops house. I moved in.
Caregiver and son refuse to leave. They moved in other family members.
Rude and aggressive.
Once all of the leave.
Im changing the lock.
Putting all their belongings on drive way.
And not open door to no one including police.
Tell cops the have no rental agreement. They are trespassing please have them arrested.
Puc it I'll take my chances

So If someone breaks into your home they go to jail for breaking and entering but a squatter pays zero consequences? Make it makes sense....Our system is upside down because society is upside down.

We own a ranch that is VERY remote. We actually had squatters move in blocking our irrigation. Here we have an awesome sheriff with a spine. The deputy trespassed them so fast it made their heads spin. The 12 gauge visible in our side by side did not add to their comfort. This is a firearm sanctuary county. Sorry Kansas City puts landlords through this.

Squatters who refuse to leave should get 5 years in prison.
