Not agreee. I started my QA carieer in 2017. Now 6 years later Im a senior QA Automation engineer. The limit as a QA is the sky too. You can go different ways. Management, various specified ways, like Security or ethical hacking or like me Test Automation. The possible limit for me is the Consultant. Do not forget the companies in these days start to implement the testing processes. Development is old, but testing is a new and very needed carrier possibility. The market is full with developers, but everybody needs tester as I see. The money is tricky. As a junior medior or senior developer, you will earn more money than a QA tester, but if you reach a lead or higher position specially in Test automation field, the QA wins. And as a Consultant, you can reach tons amount of money. (20K-30K dollars / month of course based on the company). So its not that black and white. If you planned your carrier way for the next 10 years, and if you are able to sacrifice money for the sake of the cause, QA carrier way has much more opportunity long term like the developers.

for everyone, if you dont want to solve a lot go for qa. if you want to solve problems then go for developer. If you want bigger money go for developer. You can still get good money in qa but not as much as developer but it is a chill career rather than developer

I wish there were more talks about this topic, I got to a soft ceiling as non-fang QA on the high 5 digits, ain't no way I'm becoming an engineer manager as a QA from here on out, so I have no clue of what to transition to. Thanks for giving out an honest opinion

agreed with manual QA tester. But add automated testing which is a lot of coding and you raise the bar.

It's the lack of a floor that bothers me right now, not that there is a ceiling. I'll dream bigger money once my bills are getting paid and I'm not figuring out how to sleep on the streets.

What about QA tester for starting in IT, while developing my skills for becoming a dev in the future? I think I want to be a dev, but the entry (at least here in Brazil) is really hard, and I got an opportunity for QA, I'm thinking if I accept it or not

can u give the steps honestly the programs that we need for QA testers>? im currently taking a course at UDEMY, also do you have any idea how to land like a intership or a company where they train you???

I absolutely agree. QA testing you are limiting yourself to just working an average 9-5 job. There isn’t any freedom in QA testing as there is as a developer whether it’s frontend, backend, mobile etc

Would you say it's easier to become a QA tester than a Software Developer?

What a terrible take.. And what happens when you go work at FANG? You become jeff's or mark's lapdog? naaaah. the only one to limit you is you, not your profession. a cashier can go start a business, nothing stopping them but entry costs.
I got news for you, you create just as much as a tester as you do a developer. you create and maintain automated tests, frameworks in which those tests run, harnesses and environments, ci/cd pipelines, tones of crap. and not ONE developer CREATES anything. forget the myth of the star dev. ITS A TEAM. testers are on that team. and i'd hate to have you as a dev on mine
