Backspace (art video)

The video explores the dark side of contemporary society, permeated by technology and consumerism and more specifically the illusions they produce on an ideological, sociological and ethical level. Not only they distort reality, but create the context in which reality is perceived and interpreted.
“Virtual reality encompasses virtual unreality” (Slater and Sanchez-Vives, 2016, p.38).
The title “Backspace” is a symbolic reference to the keyboard’s key, that moves the cursor backwards and deletes, implying the negating nature of the virtual reality. More importantly, since pushing a key is a deliberate action, it highlights the fact that the way we participate determines the impact.
