Isuzu D-Max 2021 review: SX single cab put to work!

preview_player
Показать описание
The Isuzu D-Max 2021 range is broad, but the biggest part of the line-up is the SX grade, which spans multiple body styles, drivelines and types.

It's still a diesel only affair, and for 2021 and beyond the SX grade is high-riding only. We got our hands on a SX single cab-chassis model to put it to work with a tonne in the tray to see if the impressive elements we like about the Toyota HiLux rival transfer down to the lower grades.

The all-new D-Max is definitely a step forward, with even this base model manual 4x2 ute offering class-leading safety technology, albeit at a price.

Thanks Matt for reviewing the single cab not many journos do. I will be buying one of these for my property when the hype dies down .

I wish they still sold basic work pickup trucks like this in the US.

About first gear, yes it’s very low, I have the 2019 model of this version in auto. I have discovered that the auto will let me select 2nd gear while I’m stopped and it will take off a lot quicker with a light load if I do this. I imagine it was designed to be able to do this on purpose, just think it has to be able to take off up hill with a full load which is a lot of extra weight which maybe the only time that you need first gear. I haven’t asked Isuzu about this yet maybe you guys can. In any case the extra low first gear with good ground clearance is a great help for light off road work. 4WD is arguably the least important thing for off road work in dry conditions.

To put it into perspective the negatives you mention the average driver won’t even notice day to day so it’s 10/10 for me. Prediction: goodbye hi-lux, Ranger

Looks like a good workhorse. Will be interesting to see how it holds up after a couple of years abuse by the apprentices. No doubt the engine will handle a few Friday skids and overloaded trailers... just gotta hope the interior and tech can hold up with all the dust and sun it will be subject to.

I really hope I'm missing something, and he did not just say a touch screen is better than knobs.

This is the Sam price as the 3.0 litre d4d Hilux and it actually has 6 speed and 3.5 tonne towing also a 3.0 litre engine very good value

Why haven't they offered the 1.9Lt engine for work horse spec's in Australia?

I like the look of this pickup, especially the bed/tray.
If I had one, I’ll replace the wheels with some nice alloys, and that’ll be it.

I've owned an SX for 1 year. The safety features are bordering on dangerous. The lane guidance systems and AED are far too sensitive. If someone is turning into a pertol station or driveway slowly, you'll be told inform form of a face full of steering wheel. It doesn't give a gentle brake, its although your passenger has pulled up the handbrake as hard as they can.

The lane guidance system is far too sensitive, it will pick up tar lines of the road and even on occasion it will try to avoid a tucks shadow.
