Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out how to do this and in some forums I saw posts saying that this flash doesn't have this function. I was thinking about sending it back, because of the lack of this function.
But then I saw your video and everything works fine now :)

THANK YOU!!! So many tutorials tell you how to turn on your camera but don't include how to make the camera talk to the flash

the pop up flash still needs to be "up" to send the signal to the remote flash, light will still come out of it, but for communication to the remote flash, not for the actual exposure. The signal is not "radio" and is transmitted to the remote flash from the pop-up flash.

Yes, E-TTL II refers to a more sophisticated software component and is implemented in the camera body. It incorporates lens-to-subject distance information and can handle more tricky lighting enviroments. It compares data from ambient light in the scene with pre-flash levels to help create a more natural exposure.

You can fire multiple speedlights on the same channel/group AND you can also have different groups with different outputs also! Like a main light and fill light with a 1:2 ratio!

I still have the T2i. It's still in good working condition (and currently don't have another $1000 to throw at another camera for now). So, if anyone was wondering, at around 1:16, just to confirm... the T2i can't do wireless flash.
:(
Unless you buy a transmitter or something? But they aren't cheap, so you're better off just saving your money for a newer camera.

Of course! Just be sure to put it back in a normal TTL mode!

Hi, I'm a newbie to all this, and a little confused. Does the built in flash have to flash to trigger the off camera flash, (communicate by light) or do they communicate via infra red, basically what I'm asking is can I fire the remote flash without the built in flash firing?

what does this have better than the flash on the t2i?

Hi! Thanks a lot for that tutorial! That was the exact explanation I needed, I have a T4i and just bought a 430 EX II, and so far I wasn't able to connect wireless. I was starting to regret my investiment on the flash! Hehehe... Once again, thank you very very much!!! =D

Regards.

Yes it works with the 430EX. I just want to find a way to use the external flash without having to use the in-camera flash as well...

if you mask tape the pop up flash, the signal will not reach the remote flash and it will not fire.
