HK Style French Toast Recipe (5-Min Breakfast)

Показать описание

Today we are making Hong Kong-style French Toast (西多士). Think of your standard fabulous French toast, except in sandwich form, stuffed with delicious peanut butter (or strawberry jam, or Nutella!), and a little condensed milk drizzled on top. It only takes 5 minutes to make, perfect for a busy morning. You’re going to love me for this one.

INGREDIENTS
6 slices of white toast
2 eggs
3 tbsp of milk
2-3 tbsp of oil to pan-fry

INSTRUCTIONS
Apply a generous amount of peanut butter on one side of the toast. Stack another slice of toast on the top to create a sandwich. Gently pack it tight so they stick together. Repeat for the other sandwich.
I have seen a lot of recipes tell you to trim off the edge for a better presentation but I don’t like to waste food so I am going to keep it.
Crack 2 eggs into a bowl and beat them well until you don’t see any obvious egg white. Then mix with 3 tbsp of whole milk thoroughly. Pour the mixture into a flat container. This will help you to coat the bread easier.
Dip the bread in the egg mixture. Turn to coat all the sides evenly. Once you finished dipping, you will have to pan-fry it right away. Do not wait because it will get soggy quickly.
Add a tbsp of oil to a pan. Pan-fry over low heat until golden brown on all the surfaces.
Drizzle some sweetened condensed milk or chocolate syrup over the toast. Top a piece of butter and enjoy!
Note: Day-old, a bit hardened toast is perfect for this recipe. If your bread is fresh and soft, it will lose its shape after you dip it in the egg batter.

You continue to amaze me. I live alone so don't cook much. That does not stop the joy you give my life. I don't often give praise where it is due. I'm trying to learn. You really make my days better, and I am grateful. I will probably never cook any of your recipes, too much work for feeding only me. Just watching you is a joy! I hope someone is making you even happier.

I learn of so many dishes from your channel that I've never heard of. I cannot think of a dish I've had that you haven't covered. I am particularly interested in traditional recipes that are typically not available in a western style Chinese restaurant.

Great quick breakfast idea. How about more 'traditional' Chinese breakfast ideas. Thank you for shining so brilliantly with your cooking !

I enjoy making my french toast filled with cheese and topped with maple syrup. Sometimes adding bacon. The cheese that I use is usually basic sliced white. The combination of textures and taste is very satisfying

Hi, Mandy! Honestly, I can't think of anything in particular. I'd simply look forward to any recipes that you post. Someone else mentioned more breakfast items. I guess I'd second that idea. I'm always trying to expand my morning meal ideas, before I head off to work. Thanks! Good luck to everyone.

This is such a good idea! I'm definitely going to try this next time I want french toast. I think more breakfast recipes would be awesome; full Chinese, fusion, or whatever you want! I'm sure whatever you pick will be fantastic 👍

Our French Toast recipe was 4 eggs, 1/3 cup milk, 1 teaspoon Vanilla and 1-2 teaspoons Cinnamon for the dip, mix thoroughly. Cut 1 inch thick day old bread French or Italian Bread. You would dip it into the egg mixture for about 30 seconds on a side, then cook it on the griddle with very little oil, just enough to stop it from sticking. When browned and done, serve with butter on top and what ever type of syrup or powdered sugar you felt like. Mom would make the syrup: 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil for a few minutes until it starts to thicken. Remove from heat, add 1 teaspoon Maple or Vanilla extract and a pat of butter.

I love your recipes! It's great to see how you cook and what types of dishes other people enjoy. I love Chinese food, and have made many of your recipes. I love the stir-fry's. Rice is a staple in our house, and I love to serve fresh vegetables in a savory sauce to go over it. Everyone loves it!

I love watching your videos – the step-by-step instructions are helpful, but I really like the commentary and information you provide along with it! I know that this isn't a Chinese recipe, but I would love to see you make Pork Egg Foo Yung.

My family loves this. The only thing I add is a bit of vanilla to the egg mixture. Steps it up a notch.
