What if your dog won't listen without an electric collar, doesn't like treats or lunges at things?

For the person on Instagram who asked what to do if your dog isn’t treat motivated. Kind of reiterating and expanding on what Zak suggested. If your dog just doesn’t have a high food drive then you need to find what they are driven by. It could be play, or praise, or something else. My puppy isn’t very food motivated. I had to actually teach her that treats mean she did something good and how to follow a treat and everything. Even with teaching her about treats she still isn’t very motivated by them. After meeting with a private trainer we realized that she is actually really responsive to sounds (both positively and negatively) she gets super excited about sounds or she gets startled by sounds. Because she’s really responsive to sounds she responds really well to praise as a reward. Simply being exciting and happy and puppy talking to her is a reward for her! I’ve even used snapping as a lure for her! I still use treats but I try to have praise as her main reward. So basically if no matter what you try treats aren’t working for your dog you should experiment and see what your dog responds to best. You could even try a temperament test or working with a private trainer or behaviourist to figure it out.

I've had absolutely incredible results using Zak's methods and techniques with my rescue pup. It really is amazing and I've never used those "collars". My dog doesn't even wear a collar just a harness with a nice handle on top.

I started your 30 day dog training course 4 days ago and I love it so far! I have an almost 5 month old puppy and she is super smart, so I wanted to get her mind working and get her trained at the same time. So far she is doing really well with leave it (she didn't know leave it at all before I started). She is so good at it that I can throw multiple treats on the ground while I am standing and she will leave them alone. I can even put treats (high value treats) on her paws while she is laying down, or even on her nose and she will leave them alone. :)

What's very misunderstood by Zak is that shock collars are only misused by those that don't know how to use them. If you put the setting at like 3 or 4 out of 100, the person won't feel it, and what the dog feels is a minor tap that's equivalent to a mother of a litter nipping at the neck of a pup when correcting his/her behavior. A choke collar is really the equivalent of this... the only difference is that one is "land-line" and the other isn't.

Rebel, my Saint Bernard was a great dog and he wasn’t food motivated. My current dog, Sheriff is a Turveren/ very food motivated and terrible manners. I plan on using your videos to help him and I thank you.
