I also don't understand how they always use "welfare is too expensive" as an argument against it, when detention costs even more while _restricting_ freedom instead of _offering_ it

I worked as a immigration detention officer for several years. With regard to the statements made about the detention facilities for immigrants, I can attest that she is 100% correct. In fact based on my experience the vast majority are persons who like she said overstayed their visas. There was about 1/3 or less of those individuals who had committed crimes. In those cases, those individuals served time in jail or prison depending on the severity. However the detention facility was not a punishment. It was a holding facility during their immigration proceedings. Some just had been victims of hardship and bad luck. But I am also proud to say that where I worked, all of them were treated very well and looked after while going through their process. Thanks for a great video Leeja! 🙂

Bro, when you speak 3 languages and have a degree with 10 years of experience we can talk about me trying to steal your job. I'm half-Honduran and most of my family is from Honduras. My stepmom is training to be a dr but was a dr in Honduras. This older white lady came in and she did an EKG on her and the dr training her tells the lady "she was a dr in her country." The lady asks where, ok, normal. She tells her where and she goes "theres too many of yall hopping the border" basically insinuating she was an illegal immigrant and actually called her a "border hopper" I thought that was only something people said to their friends as a joke bro 😭

Immigrants (especially minorities): "That's great! So we can come over there and build a new life for ourselves away from the troubles we face in our country?"

Conservatives: "No."

I remember when I was had some friends who started talking about how evil imagrants were one day and I asked them where they got that idea and the immediately turned on me and started spouting off the same things conservative media were saying. I ended up telling them 'so we should be leaving as well because we all were imagrents and let the natives take their land back.' This country was born on forceful relocation and collinization, if anything it is the exact thing that scares conservatives which made this country in the first place, guess they scare them selves.

When talking about immigration to the US from middle america, it is worth to take a look at the history of these states like Honduras, Guatemala or Nicaragua, specially the timespan from 1870 to 1980, and what caused the economical and political situation in these countries ... that makes people want to leave their home countries so desperatly.

The issue with your whole argument is that it ignores an extremely important aspect of this issue - everyone is racist. It's not a white American thing.

im from southern California and ive always felt people from Mexico and south America are a huge part of what makes this country function properly. So cal would be just a shell if not for Hispanic people. And most importantly of all, those that are coming in are people. we should treat them like people.
