At the end of the day, how many stocks in your portfolio will come down to how diversified you want to be.

The more passive investor and if you want stable returns, I'd argue you want to be more diversified so that you can sit back and relax a bit and let investing over time do its thing.

Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got to talking about investment and money. I started investing with $150k and in the first 2 months, my portfolio was reading $274, 800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and get more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

I enjoy watching your videos Humphrey, I'm picking a few stocks I'd love to hold for a few years, do you think these stocks will do well in the long run, I've set out $570k to begin.

Warren Buffet has also highly suggested a simple 2 fund portfolio consisting of nothing more than any low cost: S&P 500 Index Fund, and U.S. Short Term Government Bonds Index Fund. He recommends a 90/10 allocation, but judge allocation by your personal risk level.

Own good stocks. Not just many stocks.

Own 500, including Nvidia, in Warren Buffett's favorite recommendation for investors: The Vanguard 500 Index, mutual fund, or ETF, you decide.

Most of my investment is in my retirement accounts with my work but I have some stocks I play around with also. I have about 30 different stocks in my etrade account, some with 30 or more shares each, and most just bought on a whim or poor selection criteria. Overall I have pretty much broke even for the total value of $4000 or so. I recently started a new brokerage account at sofi and I have about $20 or so a week going to it. When I get ready to pick a stock I just buy one share of each company, but I'm picking a stock with dividend payout between 1-5%, and other positive numbers. I use a stock screener to narrow down the list each time I get ready to buy a stock. I like sofi because I can buy cheaper stocks sometimes without worrying about reverse split fees.

The key to big returns is not big moving stocks. It's managing risk in relationship to reward. Having the correct size on and turning your edge as many times as necessary to reach your goal. That holds true from long term investing to day trading.

What exactly do you mean by own 5 stocks? Like own 5 shares of one stock, or 5 individual stocks, with multiple shares in each?

It's okay if you don't agree with this type of investing. Many of us do agree. I have 20 positions in high growth stocks. I'm getting 15 dividend Pay checks, made About 450k last yr. good dividend paying portfolio .although I use an F.A so buy as much as you can and wait for the rebound Only the brave gets rewarded in these times! major thanks to Rita Wildrin Mora.

Newbie question: So when you refer to owning x amount of multiple stocks is it assumed you mean 1 whole stock or rather a fraction of it? Which would be a share..?
