3x-18=×+2
Transpose the xs and 18
It would be
3x-x=2+18
(Transposing a no. Would change the sign +=- and vise versa)
2x=20
Then cancel 2 to division
2÷20
×=10
Thanks alot for the review sir :)

Yes, that is one of the ways to correctly set up and solve that problem. Good Job :0

It's more clear if you have columns for each age category, one for past, one for current, and, if necessary, future. I find its easier to figure out the logic this way.

Please answer, if the problem said. Mike was 3 times as old as sandra. Why should not be 3(x-2)? Since (x-2) was the age of Mike 6years ago.

Hello do you have a solution or explanation for this problem I've found on your website? it's really confusing me

On a field trip, a teacher is trying to determine the age of three students: Aya, Molly, and Mary. She is told that four years ago, Aya was the same age as Molly is today and Aya is two years older than Mary. Additionally, she knows that the difference of Aya’s current age and Molly’s current age is the same as Mary’s age nine years ago. Help the teacher find the age of the three girls.

7:07 why did you have to subtract X and add 18? Is that just a rule you have to follow?

For the second question we can get the answer by abit different way:
Sandra= x-8
Mike= x
6 yrs ago mike was 3 times as old as Sandra.
Now Sandra =x-8-6
Mike = x-6
Let's solve for x
X-8-6= x-6= x=4
6 yrs ago Sandra was 4 yrs old and mike was 12 yrs old because he was 3 times older than her and their current age is 4+6 and 12+6 respectively which is 10 and 18 yrs .

For the Second problem if i used Mike's age as a variable.I had X= Mike's age and Sandra's age= x-8. So 6 years ago I had x-6 for Mike and x-14 for Sandra since 6 years ago she would be 14 years younger which gives the equation x-6=3(x-14). I got x=18 for Mike and taking 8 away from that gives me 10 for Sandra's age. Did i use to correct procedure to get this answer? Thanks.

3(x+1/3x)= 68×3= 3x/1+3x/3=68×3 =3x+x=68×3 = I hope this is the way he arrived at here.
