High intensity interval training or HIIT has been a fitness craz efor several years. It's one of the best ways to get in shape and lose fat quickly. It also is being blamed for an increase in emergency department visits for a serious medical condition called Rhabdomyolysis, or Rhabdo.

Some people are even TRYING to push their bodies into a state of Rhabdo as a badge of honor. In like ... "I'm so tough and I pushed myself so hard that I started shutting my body down and causing massive organ failure and I could die because I'm such a badass.."

Yeah, that's stupid. Please don't do that.

But I will tell you what you CAN do if you are interested in high intensity interval training (HIIT) and how to avoid rhabdomyolysis to get your workout on in this week's The Weekly Dose!

Im an exercise physiologist. I also wrote the first book on rhabdo. I really want to thank you for helping me spread the word on this condition. Ive been educating people about it for over a decade. Id point out that rhabdo can be due to activities most dont think of as "high intensity." Ive encountered people who developed rhabdo from gardening and pairing a room. About the dark urine color, not everybody gets that symptom. I agree going to the ER is the best tip.
