Sony to acquire Bungie for $3.6 billion dollars

Sony announced its plans today to acquire Bungie Software today for 3.6 billion dollars. Bungie was the original studio behind Halo and has since gone on to establish Destiny as a major franchise in the games industry.

This is _exactly_ what I've been afraid of after the Activision buyout: all the other console manufacturers acquiring other publishers like some sort of monopoly game. Limiting companies that would previously release their games on as many platforms as possible to now only one is both determine to the consumer, and the studios that could shut down if sales don't meet their particular console corporations expectations.

If this keeps up and Nintendo buys Sega or something, and or Microsoft acquires EA, then the standard of big 3rd party games on whatever system you own will come to an end and gaming will become like the film industry, where movies and shows are exclusive on one particular streaming service and you have to subscribe to multiple of them.

Wow ppl really be clueless... this has nothing to do with Activision /blizzard. An acquisition doesn't happen in 2 weeks, this takes months at least... Sony fans getting pretty hyped thinking they own halo after talking shit about it since forever... and a movie.. I doubt it the game is barely surviving a movie ain't gonna save it

Sony sees the Destiny IP as something to compete with both Star Wars, and Halo. Let's see if the tv show will be good enough to do that.
