This is actually the best way i've seen so far to manage scraps. Great idea!

my wife uses the left overs from trimming to stuff 'cage beds' for animal shelters and has made pet beds for friends

I love doing this with my leftover fabric also. The remaining little strips that can't be used for sewing I collect into a pillow case, and when that is stuffed full of the leftover non- sewable fabric, I sew the end of the pillow case shut, pop it inside yet another inexpensive pillowcase and use it in a pet bed. It's washable and functional at the same time 🤩

That is a great idea. I love when everything is all tidy and organized. I agree, take care of yourself.

Hi, we use the tiny scraps, thread, batting pieces for filling up a slip cover as a cushion for the rescue animal shelter.

Thank you for the tips Laura. Have ever thought of donating the little scraps. In our area (Eastern Ontario) some quilters donate the tiny scraps to sewers who make dog beds to use as stuffing. Hope you get better soon. 🤗

Thanks so much for making it easier for us to manage scraps. I also want to thank you for telling us all to take care. We spend so much of our time taking care of family, pets and the homebound. Sometimes we forget that we matter too!

It took me a long time to realize that I was just as important than anyone else in the family and to take care of me first! I started out with my scraps done like you do - in pre-cut sizes but, found that it doesn't take long to become overwhelmed by them. Sorting them by color, while useful, would take up far more room than my 1, 500 SF house could handle. I've begun asking other quilters on FB is anyone would like some and it's finally becoming more manageable - LOL! Well, that PLUS doing more scrappy blocks...

Hope you feel better soon, Laura! Back to bed for me (take care of me), perhaps with a stop in my sewing room to admire my fabric on the way

What a fabulous idea, Laura! It can be confusing as to how to save and organize scraps and this really makes sense. My husband who is also a quilter, thinks this a great idea, as well. Get better soon. So grateful there is a you.

Thanks for showing your system. Precut sizes really make more sense to have on hand. I have also cut your 2 x 3-1/2 rectangles for the scrappy quilt and found they make cute 6” squares for Kleenex holders too. I keep a stack by my machine and use them for leaders and enders. The 2-1/2” squares will work for that too.

I just cut a bunch of my scraps into 5" blocks. Amazing how it seems to take up a lot less room!! And in my little sewing room that's a big win!

I put the small left over bits in a “pillow case “ for a dog bed.

I've just started quilting and find that my fabric stash is already growing a bit unruly. Your idea of making everything into precuts after finishing a quilt is wonderful and timely. Hope you feel better soon.
