Sue, I love all the quilts you make on YouTube. My organization is a little different because I mostly do the QAYG method. That’s because creating a whole large quilt is too hard on my shoulders.and adding the backing is rough on my back. I have limited space as I live in an apartment but I wrap and stack my fabric like you do. Mine is in an armoire. What I am finding is that if I want to pull something from the middle or farther down, it pulls the rest out. Lately I discovered an extra shelf that Is in my walk-in closet so I will stand up my fabric which will make things easier and give me extra room in the armoire to stand that fabric up also. Have a good week!

Love your organization, I have been cutting my fabric into usable sizes. I organize by colors, I have the room, but the fabric leftover from projects is definitely cut into usable sizes.

I buy mostly one yard increments. My storage is in shallow bins that when I take the lid off I can see everything in the bin. I just went through my stash and sorted by color and theme. I now know all my stash and only buy background fabric. One local shop keeps a $7 clearance room going. They pull the older fabric just to get it moving. They have a sale coming up with 30% off. I will be there to buy the rest of the bolt of 4 or more yards. I keep all that on bolts.

My fabrics I buy are put into colour plastic shoe size containers. I mark each container with the colours. I try to cut my scraps left over from projects into different sizes. Mostly 5”, 2 1/2 and 1 1/2. I do also cut 2 1/2; 2 and 1 1/2 strips. They all in their own container. I have a very large plastic blocks with scraps and I use them for scrappy blocks, or I can cut into particular sizes for Bonnie Hunter quilts

Fantastic, thank you. Love your ideas for geometric designs especially. Something nice for masculine bed coverings!
I might also cut 1.5” strips, I think. But I agree 1” is useful, eg for butted QAYG blocks with slashing to cover the join.
I do wonder about the postage stamps, as a quilt like that would weigh a ton with all those seam allowances!

I just went through all my fabric totes, which were organized by color. I got tired of digging to see what I have. I cut anything less than a fat quarter down to 5" to 1.5", these all go into plastic shoe boxes.Any left over that was a good size for a strip quilt was put in a another tote. Fat quarters, or close to, all folded neatly in bins. For anything over a yard, I purchased the comic book boards and folded the fabric to fit the board and made little bolts and they all got put back in the original Totes, by color. Took me a little over a month to do. I feel less stressed with it organized. Most of my stash was given to me.

I’m moving my sewing space from the basement to a new addition room on the ground floor of our house. I have 5 large totes of fabric scraps in all colors and sizes. I love your idea of cutting into useful sizes. The only thing I’d do different is group them in drawers by color.

I think you've just sorted out my Mount Scrapmore for me. Sorting by colour isn't really working but by size/shape seems a much easier way Thank you.

This is something I definitely need to do. I'll need to take about a good month to be organized. I'm going to switch out color and do sizes. The colors seem to be too overwhelming . There are so many hues and shades it drives me nuts. Thank you and I love love love how your patterns have motions

I organize my scraps, the same way you do. Strips, and squares in their own cubbies by size not color. I love scrap quilts so this works fine for me also. Thank you for sharing.

Great advise. Different strokes for different folks. But this will be so helpful for keeping those stashed pieces easy to find.

I dont use precuts and buy yardage instead . I cut my leftovers into 6 1/2" and 4 1/2" squares to make 4 patches and 9 patches finishing at 12 inches. I also cut strips 2 1/2" and have been using those for the great grandkids to quilt string blocks. Thanks for sharing
