Clearly these pies were used for educational purposes... However during production of the video, Numberphile donated £314 to a local charity to provide food for people in Nottingham at times of crisis.

We filmed this video at Meadow Lane, home of Notts County FC.

The pies were kindly donated in the interests of an educational video.

They were no longer fit for consumption so we instead donated £314 to a local charity which buys groceries for people in need (although not necessarily pies, I suppose).

I like to think these pies gave their lives for a worthy educational cause - and I hope some of our viewers are tomorrow's mathematicians, engineers and scientists... the people who will help put an end to all talk about food shortages.

Great one Brady. I'm particularly amused by the juxtaposition of suspenseful music and the mathematician arranging food stuffs out in the middle of a parking lot. Easily a win for sure. I'm considering eating Pukka Pies because of their use in calculating this special number. This comment was 314 characters long.

Thanks - I don't feel bad... I really love it and think many people will actually better understand what pi is (ratio of circumference to diameter) because they watched it.... I know some people who have had that experience already!

It is a much more fun way to make the point than diagrams on a whiteboard! I think I know some teachers who may find it handy way to engage students.
