The oil giants love this stuff, it keeps them relevant. Money and recourses spent on trying to achieve green hydrogen is money and resources not spent modernizing and upgrading the electric grid to support electric vehicles.
Hydrogen as an alternative energy source has long been a red herring to distract and derail efforts in other and already established green energy sectors. It was widely supported by the oil industry in the early 2000s as a way to stop the deployment of early electric vehicles. I still remember Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was governor of California unveiling the "Hydrogen Highway" and how it was used to as an excuse to destroy all the EV1s. That was 15 years ago, even with massive public subsidies where is that highway?
The oil industry has a plan, should hydrogen become a major form energy, to make sure that the majority of hydrogen is sourced from fossil fuels. This includes a public relations campaign to sow FUD and promise that totally green hydrogen is only a few years away, while doing everything they can to make sure it never happens.

Green hydrogen production is like photosynthesis of trees which create oxygen. Also we can get H2 for transport and factory operations. The station can set up easily because it can produce H2 from easy find materials around us. It is great to have green hydrogen production.

Hydrogen is best generated at the location where you want to use it. This way, you don't have to compress or liquify it or transport it with the efficiency costs that this causes. So, when you have a niche use of Hydrogen such as producing green steel, cement (perhaps), refining sour hydrocarbons or chemical production, transmit the electricity via the existing grid and make it on site. But for heaven sake, give up on using it for land transport.

Compressing and cooling of hydrogen - dumb and wasteful of energy
Storage of hydrogen - dumb, wasteful, ineffective and stupid
Transportation of hydrogen - dumb, wasteful, ineffective, stupid AND dangerous.

The enthalpy and entropy do not change, only the activation energy. The energy to make H2 is very high, and the energy released is less than 50% of the energy to mke the H2. Storage and transport of H2 are difficult and expensive and electrolisers and fuel cells are more expensive than batteries that are some 90% efficient.

There is very little energy in hydrogen, and the fuel cell have 35 % losses, and when you convert it back to elekricity you loose a 35% again, and it is the smallest molecule, so it is leeking eaisy, and there are not mutch energy in it. It has to be compress to as much ad 700bar in viecles, and it is a master, vhen leeking.
So No, I think battery is much better. How I see it.
