Daytime running lights are on for safety. I drove 50 k miles per year as a salesman in Ohio for over 20 years without any accidents. I think it helps other drivers see you coming. I never worried about the cost of a few bulbs .

Samcrac has to be the most down to earth internet personality. Nobody else on youtube seems so genuine and good-hearted than him.

"When you see leather in a GTI, it's always a loaded car"... and in this case that means: No Sat-Nav and no automatic climate control.

“It’s not a VW unless it has a check engine light on” As a VW owner this is too true

DRLs help you be seen by other traffic. It really does help keep you safe

Sam this video had it all, cheap awesome car, you getting dirty and fixing stuff, and best of all....completing it. Awesome job!!! I'm always amazed how you find these gems with no hidden frame damage or anything.

It’s good but you really need to spray the inside of the boot lid

I know exactly why its clicking it happened on my golf although everything was functioning perfectly the clicking was annoying, so I found a second clutch pedal with clutch slave cylinder and the clicking got fixes Im pretty sure it was only the clutch slave cylinder but as the clutch pedal used was only 30 quid here in the UK i just changed the whole thing, also very easy to change GUYS LIKE THIS SO HE CAN SEE THIS COMMENT

2005 I picked up myself in Wolfsburg, Germany my brandnew tornadored Golf GTI, pretty much the same spec, except the leather.Phanomenal car, drove it very often top speed on the german Autobahn, I sold it 12 years ago and still miss it today.

Timing Belt + Timing Chain should be one of the first things you HAVE to do!

I love the long exotic builds, but I really appreciate you sharing builds like this because it shows that it is possible to get a vehicle like this for a very reasonable amount of money. This is much closer to what I'd likely choose were I to do one of these rebuild projects. Thanks, Sam!

I always run full lights, night or day. It increases your visibility to oncoming traffic if you have the sun behind you or if you're exiting a dark area like a tunnel. And lights are consumables anyways, so I don't mind using them, for their intended purpose. Also, it may sound like a contradiction, but by making a habit of turning lights on when starting the car, you by necessity also make a habit of turning lights off with the engine before getting out. So once the habit is ingrained, you decrease the odds of ever forgetting to turn off the lights, and stranding yourself with a dead battery

Man you just made my evening. First off I will be purchasing the Carly. I own a 2006 MKV gti and it has been doing this very same thing. I changed the spark plugs and coils which helped a little but not much. And it has since acquired the blinking check engine light. So now thanks to you I am positive, that it's the problem. Thank you thank you thank you. I love my little gti.

I had the same car with the same problem when I lived in Germany. Luckily mine was repaired under the extended warranty but the dealer did a crushed-walnut cleaning of the valves and then replaced the intake. What a HUGE difference it made! Such a great car in the twisties and on the Autobahn.

The fact that Sam takes time out of his busy schedule to do stuff like this for his buddies makes him my favorite Youtube Car dude!
