Federer Serve Secret (REVEALED): TENNIS SERVE
Jeff Salzenstein reveals Federer's “phone booth” serve secret, which will help you to easily increase power on your tennis serve, as well as improve your technique. Most players struggle to get into a proper trophy position on their tennis serve and this powerful tip will help a lot

Some of the common problems are having the elbow too low, or keeping the hand too far away from the body and head. Additionally, they lack relaxation on the hand and arm which limits their ability to drop the racquet and generate easy power on their tennis serve.

Jeff breaks down the "Phone booth" serve tip into three main areas. Here’s a quick overview on each:

One: Start in a throwing motion

Grab a tennis ball , create a 90 degree angle position with your elbow as you keep it close to your ear and head. You’ll be in a similar position like a quarterback who’s getting ready to throw a ball in football. Then, you can add the shoulder turn to find that ideal trophy position. Once you have practiced this motion, you can grab your tennis racquet and practice shadow strokes from a half-serve position.

Two: Get your racquet more vertical

When you get to the trophy position, make sure that your racquet is more vertical up and down. Too often, players have their racquet too horizontal as a result of their grip or wrist position.

Three: Keep your off arm totally straight

Focus on getting your off arm completely straight to get into the phonebooth. Keep both arms relaxed. The dominant hand is close to the head, and the tossing hand is close to the chin. You want to reach a compact and efficient position prior to serve.

The Phone booth secret serve tip will help you to develop the proper muscle memory to improve your tennis serve, and allow you to accelerate up to the ball for getting the easy power that you’re looking for.

This and your "elbow the enemy" tip have completely transformed my serve for the better. Thank you so much for your hard work, Jeff!

Great lesson... Must initiate the drop from a 90 degree elbow flexion angle. That is critical.

04:45 "Some players will drop with much less than a 90 degree elbow flexion angle because they cannot drop from the 90 degree elbow flexion angle".

That is true, but doing that will not achieve a true shoulder stretch. True external shoulder rotation must be initiated with a 90 degree angle. All top servers will achieve this 90 degree position just prior to drop.

There is little bit of leeway; maybe 5 degrees. But 90 degrees is ideal. If a player only has 80 degrees elbow flexion (bending too much) he will not be stretching and engaging the proper shoulder muscles.

I am glad you recorded this from the side. Since you are a lefty, I was able to mirror your movements since I and most players are righties. Thank you for not using a different angle.

Hi Jeff, you're always number one. I noticed that you keep your left arm still and straight for a few more moments. I started doing it recently and I feel much better! And I did it because I saw you.💪😁 Henry from Genoa. PS: I stay at home now but i I try it always in the living 😃.

Great video from a true pro. I slowed Jeff down to .05 sure he sounds like he's had ten beers but his form makes sense. The serve must have ten critical steps! I'd advise doing 50 shadow reps as this has to be a muscle memory in a match, especially for those of us who have to break old habits. I'd like to see 'bold yellow lines' on the screen, in the next serving video, just to help us focus.

Thank you, in half an hour you fixed something, I struggled for very long time!! Somebody told I had to stretch my arm, which made my service very uncertain everytime. Today I tried your “compact“ position and worked out perfectly!! I also threw balls to get the right feeling!! Very happy about this new sensation of a very easy going service, before it was exhausting also. I try to learn the Kick serve, will have a look to your videos!! Thank you again, best greatings from Italy!! Waltraud

Great video! I think I cover most of the tips you give for the serve. What I am currently struggling is in pushing my hips forward when serving. Im refering to that forward motion you are able to achieve from 8:05 to 8:07 in your hips. Any advice?

Thx Jeff! I recently lost to a close game, to a player I should beat, but “he made me bad”. Slicing every shot on both sides, never missing anything. I kept hitting big shots about 1 foot out. I eventually ended up countering with the same slice strategy. It sort of worked but the match looked like two 70 year olds playing, and I got no edge from being the more powerful player. He made me play his game 100%. Any advice on how to deal with that type of defensive play?
