In this video I'm launching the Tesla Model S Plaid. Not anything to crazy here, I've been getting a lot of question one the Plaid's launch. This is an interesting launch sequence, especially because it's an electric vehicle. Soon, I'll be doing a 0-165mph launch and will post here on the channel. Enjoy!

I rode in one of these with a friend. and the quietness just seems odd. but a bit calming at the same time.

Imagine this car pulling onto the interstate from the shoulder and the immediately keeping up with the flow, I’d be in disbelief.

"Tap the "Controls" icon on the infotainment screen (the icon is a mugshot of the Model S located at the lower left corner). This brings you to a menu where you'll select "Pedals & Steering, " and then "Acceleration."

Next, you'll need to select "Drag Strip Mode, " which is Teslaspeak for launch control. The system then preconditions the battery pack, bringing it to its ideal operating temperature. This can take anywhere from eight to 15 minutes based on our observations, so you'll want to give yourself plenty of time to prepare prior to any straight-line showdowns. A message stating "Peak Performance is Ready" pops up to let you know the preconditioning process is complete. You're almost there.

With the powertrain preconditioned, you can move to the final step. First, you'll need to firmly stomp the brake pedal with your left foot, and then do the same to the accelerator pedal with your right foot. This operation initiates "Cheetah Stance, " which lowers the front end approximately 2 inches. This takes about eight to 10 seconds. According to Tesla, lowering the front end improves "traction and anti-lift geometry during maximum acceleration." Tesla also says it tuned the system to allow the driver to hold this position longer than before.

"Cheetah Stance Enabled" and "Ready to launch" messages pop up on the instrument panel when the front end is done lowering and the car is ready to launch. All you need to do is take your foot off of the brake and let the car do the rest. If you're brave enough to take your eyes off of the dragstrip, you can briefly check out the wild graphics that play on the instrumented panel during acceleration."
This is really fast like 20 mins + 2 seconds

Everyone bashes them about being electronic. The whole point in racing is to get from A to B as quickly as possible.

I'm on my trusty desktop computer and when I pause the video and hit the period button, it goes frame by frame. I hit it 30 times from 0:00 on the video timer and it advances to 0:01 at exactly 30 hits. If that's the case, then each hit of the period button is 1 second divided by 30 which = .033 repeating seconds per hit. When this guy is at 0 mph, I start hitting the period button to advance the frames until he hits 60 mph. I counted 72 hits (from the tail end of 01:24 to the beginning of 1:26 when he hits 60).
So, to break it down:

He stomps the pedal immediately after saying “Alright, here we go”.
That is 9 hits of the period button before the video timer hits 01:24. THEN, it is another 30 hits of the period button to get to 01:25, THEN another 30 hits to get to 01:26, THEN it is another 3 hits to the point where his speedo reads 60 mph. That is 72 hits X .03(repeating) seconds which = 2.39 seconds.

I realize this is a very crude way to gage the time, but as far as what I can do with the video, this is reasonably close. So, no, this car is most definitely NOT doing a sub 2 second 0-60 nor is it doing a 3 second 0-60. Somewhere in the low middle.

He explains some interesting points about how Tesla came up with the “1.9 0-60” claim. Most of the articles I googles stated they were getting somewhere around 2.2-2.4 0-60 times under normal conditions (non-prepped drag strip) so the 2.39 I came up with seems consistent.

I do have to note that I know nothing about this car other than YouTube videos so for all I know there has been an update in the software that made this thing able to go 0-60 in 1.8 seconds with your 80-year-old grandma in the driver’s seat.

So, it's 0-60 in 32 minutes and 1.9 seconds... Seems slower than my fat uncle walking backwards.

The Lucid Air Saphire is faster at 1.7 sec. Also has a greater range at 512 miles on a full charge. But you will pai about $180k for that performance. It's also a more luxurious sport car.
