Chris Harris joins Top Gear Magazine Editor Jack Rix to discuss the new Tesla Model S 'Plaid' - a revision of the Model S with 1100bhp, a 0-60 time under two seconds, and a steering wheel suspiciously devoid of its roundness. So, what do you think of the 'Plaid'? Let us know in the comments.

P.S. It was quite chilly in the hanger that day, hence why the boys are wrapped up.

love they're now embracing what actually works for them rather than try copying how Jeremy Clarkson ran the show previously.

Chris Harris has such an amazing talent for talking. He's informed, critical, witty and such a genuine nice guy. Also a true petrol head. He could talk about churning butter and I'd listen to it.

"You don't need a gear selector because the car will decide where you want to go"
But I don't want the car to decide where I want to go, I want to decide where I want to go Elon.

getting someone into the passenger seat and saying "Watch This !" has pretty much sold every Italian sports car since the dawn of the motor age. You know this to be true CHRIS !

I have owned my Tesla 3P for almost two years. The acceleration still hasn't gotten old. I still floor it away from lights.

10 seconds into the video, Jack: "So Tesla updated their cars."

Yesterday, I watched an American petrolhead channel that usually only focuses on brutal V8 muscle cars. After testing the Model S Plaid on a drag strip, the presenter immediately ordered one.

Some observations as I recently picked up a used 2016 Model S P90D with Lubricous plus and I also have a 997.2 Carrera 4S, a couple of BMW M-sport cars (E60, E90) and a couple of Audis (B7) (all 6-speed manuals except an Audi Q7). First, 0-60 in 2.6 seconds is already physically uncomfortable and largely a party trick. But you don't have to use it all, I regularly just pull away from lights to 60 or so in a "real" 4 to 5 seconds or so - enough to leave everyone way behind. And occasionally blast from 40 to 60 in one second. But my son said it best - the Tesla is really fun to drive once a week. The rest of the time, the involvement we get with the 6-speed manual and the much better dynamics of the other cars is just more fun and more satisfying. But I might say the same thing about a bloated, automatic transmission F90 M5. Secondly, EV range is not really an issue if you have other cars for a long road trip as 99% of the time you are charging in your own garage. So don't be afraid to go with a non-Tesla EV unless its your only car and you really need the charging network for long trips. My real world range varies a lot - and if I am driving spiritedly and its winter time (colder weather), its really only like 170 miles between charges - which again is plenty for daily driving and errands. I know when the newer ones become used, my Model S re-sale will go down - but maybe as you speculate, I can upgrade batteries or tech in the future. Final thought - someone needs to make an EV with intentionally limited range for daily local use so that it can be around 3, 000 lbs. in weight or less - that will help with dynamics. Also someone (just like Jeep Magneto - hopefully Porsche) will put a 6-speed manual in an EV with ability to select a lower RPM limit to encourage shifting. Maybe even emulate an idle motor speed so you have to mesh the clutch. It can be done. But I also agree retrofitting EV drivetrains in already existing cars will be a thing and if nothing else to lower the carbon footprint of manufacturing a whole new car..
