Need help with boarding out a loft or need a video of diy loft boarding and you want to know How to Board a Loft?
Welcome to my channel and today i am here to help you with a simple step by step guide of loft boarding. At Southern Loft Boarding we are experts with over 13 years experience in Loft Boarding and Loft Insulation. We treat lofts, Government grant refusals, room in the roof and asbestos refusals. We provide loft insulation for any type of property.
Boarding a loft makes for a fairly easy DIY project that is incredibly useful in increasing the storage space in your home. The loft is often completely underused, so if you’re not planning on turning it into habitable space with a loft conversion, then adding loft boards and using it for effective storage can be a great solution.
Loft boards are fixed together relatively easily, but working withing the confines of the loft’s available space can make boarding a loft a tricky endeavour.
In this short video we showed installing raised loft boarding which was about 15 sqm using Osb boards and new joists running at 90 degree angles to the original joists. There was a lot of wiring and pipework under certain sections and we had to be careful not to disturb these too much.
▶️ Materials and Supplies that we used:
• osb loft boards
• Screws
• 4 inch joists
• 89 mil cls joists
• Tape measure
• Drill
• Impact driver
• Saw to cut boards to size
• Protective gear including gloves and a dust mask
▶️ Benefits of boarding your loft:
• Drastically increase your home's storage space
• Declutter your home by storing more in your loft
• Make your loft safe and easy to move around in
• Reduce heat loss from your home by maintaining the correct levels of insulation
• Reduce your home's overall energy consumption by preventing heat loss

You always use the 89mm CLS but any reason why to not use 120mm or 145mm so as to put thicker insulation under? Assuming there is enough headroom.

How did u secure the joists? Did u just drill them in with a screw from an angle or go through the top of the joist on to the ones underneath? If so it it one screw for every joist below?

How would you make the joists solid as possible and what timber would you use? What weight storage would this hold?

Hi, why did you go to the extra expense of putting new joists in (at 90°)? Is it purely to gain the extra depth for more insulation?
I ask as I’m planning on re-insulating my loft with 100mm Knauf in between the existing joists then laying boards on top (screwing into existing joists). Then I’ll use the silver bubble wrap stuff to go over the rafters. Trying to create a warm loft purely to maintain a consistent temperature for storage use.
Thanks for the video.

Is there a benefit of using the off cutboards as support on the joins instead of making the cls gapping shorter say every 2ft? Or does this just come down to preference.

Thanks Lewis

What size cls would I use for perpendicular joists? I was contemplating cls around the hatch then go to loft leg kit but watching this, I'm seeing the 90 degree second set of joists and it's more logical for my set up, but everyone advises loft legs to allow circulation to keep out damp and condensation?
