What Would Happen if You Went 30 Days Without Eating?:
Everyone knows you need to eat to live and many even live to eat. Food is the fuel that powers our bodies, but could you go without it? Sure most people could go a few hours or even a few days if they really wanted to, but what would happen if you went a whole month without eating.

The longest known fast began in 1971, when a 27-year-old man survived for 382 days on just vitamins, electrolytes, and zero-calorie beverages like tea and water. Over those 13 months, he lost more than 250 pounds, shrinking from 456 to 180 pounds. But fasting can be very dangerous. In 1981, Irish republican prisoners refused food for more than two months before dying, and in 2010, a Florida woman on a water-only religious fast died after only 26 days.

If you noticed, the difference between 26 days and 382 is pretty huge, and the time you can go without eating mostly comes down to your starting body profile and a few tricks you can do to last longer.

So for the sake of our discussion what would happen to a healthy, active, 160 pound person if they stopped eating for a month.

This information is VERY Incorrect. Everything is overly exaggerated. I have done 30 day fasts 5 times in my life and have felt the best in my whole life.

Currently on day 29 of my no food diet, 8/10 would recommend to everyone. I have an imaginary friend now and the only downside is that I seem to be dying

7 days now on water fast. Half teaspoon of salt, 2 cups of black coffee and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every day. I'm down 14 pounds and feeling great and full of energy. Ketones rock

I went from 315 lbs to 175 in three months. Working out everyday (yes even in a fasted state) I fasted for three to five days a week ending the weekends with mostly iceberg lettuce. It's only dangerous if you don't have fat to burn off. Once it was all gone I didn't have the lose skin problem of dropping weight to fast but once I ran out of the fat stored in my body my muscles did start to diminish. I'm 6'2 and 175 was my cut off before it started getting detrimental. Listen to your body do your research and try it if it sounds like it works for you. Just know where your cut off limit is and be honest with yourself.

It's funny how this guy is saying fasting could be life threatening and I see all the comments about being on an extended water fast

The idea that the body feeds on muscle during an extended fast appears to be a dated one, at any rate it is unproven that muscles will be cannibalised whilst there is still fat available (i.e. gas in the tank). Current research and much experience from hundreds of people who have done extended fasts seems to indicate there is no reduction in muscle size or strength during extended fasts (where participants are carrying average levels of fat). Indeed though much of his work was done on cells and animals, Yoshinori Ohsumi's noble prize in medicine was significantly based on him proving that the body cannibalises 'junk protein', viruses and poorly performing mitochondria during extended fasts and not muscles. This would also make sense from an evolutionary biology point of view.

I have done this once in my twenties and now doing it again in my thirties. I look like an 18 years old and have energy levels of a ten year old. I am blessed that people are realising and accepting fasting as normal. I do it for religious and non religious reasons as I love my body and mind. It also increases the self control and is a fantastic way to start eating consciously. ☘️🌸💚

When I fast, and I only speaking for myself, my muscle mass didn’t go away and I felt a lot better in my overall mental and physical health and I didn’t lose strength. I was actually getting stronger when I was in my fasting state, it’s crazy to see what the human body can do. Note: I was also pretty ripped in my fasted state.

As a medical doctor I can say this video is very misinforming! Shame on you for misleading people like this!

I've fasted for the first time last June for a week, and just this morning I began my two week fasting period. When we enter August, I'll be fasting up until the first Sunday of September; 35 days straight. To suffice, I can only pray that my parents don't catch wind of what I'm doing and ruin my plan; I will not allow it!

I've always known people can survive around 30 days without food, but I didn't really know how it was possible. Thanks for presenting this in a clear, easy-to-understand manner!

How it was explained to me. The body breaking down muscle during a prolonged fast would be like a person storing a bunch of wood for the winter and when it gets cold, going and chopping up your couch to keep the fire going. Mother nature isn't that stupid

Tomorrow is the day I begin my fast for forty days to end on Good Friday, and weighing 14 stone, I have a lot of fat to burn during it!

I dont think your body never stops collecting fat just to eat muscle first. Ketosis and growth hormone are very good at keeping muscle
