'Trickle-down education is nonsense': Starmer calls on Sunak to tax private schools at PMQs

Labour leader Keir Starmer called on the prime minister to end tax breaks for private schools in a heated debate in Commons at PMQs.

'If he thinks the route for better education in this country is tax breaks for private schools, in the hope they might hand it down to state schools, that's laughable,' said Starmer. Sunak responded by defending the government's record describing Starmer's attack on his education and broader call to tax private schools as an 'attack on aspiration'.

Sunak didn’t answer a single question. PMQ’s is becoming completely pointless

So providing tax cuts to private schools is about aspirations? We struggle to follow the logic there, Prime Minister.

If a private school is private, then it should exist on its own funds and not receive any state funding whatsoever. At the same time, their curriculums must be monitored and depending on which UK country, should also follow the same education guidelines. E.g. In Wales, private schools must also teach the Welsh language and all pupils should attain a certain level of linguistic competence.

Let's see how they like trickle up poverty... As they crash the economy their cash cows won't be able to afford to work and pay their bills. Where are the shareholders going to get their profits from then?

Sunak is all about protecting the privileged as he has friends in high places.

Trickle down can't work everywhere. Education and healthcare need to be dealt demand-side. These are essential services.

Most parents that can afford to pay school fees of £45, 000 a year tax free can afford £55, 000 a year including VAT. A few private school pupils would drop out into state schools, but so what?! The money raised should then be spent on public schools.

Sunak was offered help to push through Sunak's housing policy by the Labour Party but
very very very obviously he doesn't give a flying ffff about first time buyers
and reducing the need for more housing.
That offer clearly rattled Sunak.

Shell must've declared itself a charity too, given how it hasn't paid any tax. Amazon another one. And all those 'aspirational' Tory benefactors, they must be charities as they weasel their way out of paying their fair share. Exasperational is the correct word.

Mpox, cholera, polio, and the measles all turned up in places where they hadn't been seen in years because of immigration
