"We Americans sense that we live in an empire of lies. We want to understand the people and systems which control our country and society. At a minimum, we want to know how and by whom we are ruled, and what that means for both the present and the future. But we can trust no source of information, because we know every channel of knowledge has been corrupted. Thus, inquiry usually ends in frustration, in obvious falsehoods peddled to us, or in esoteric conjectures which seem the more popular the more unlikely they are." . . .

Interesting to revisit this in the context in the current DOGE attack on the existing managerial regime.

The managerial revolution was exaggerated as the assumption was technocratic capitalism would lead to monopoly capital which has been hyperbole since the progressive era of the early 20th century. But I do fear we are moving towards bottlenecks in technological development as the relatively simpler technologies of the past that a single inventor could make in their lab or garage have been invented. Now the future break throughs in AI, Robotics, Fusion Energy ex cetera will require far more technical specialization meaning even larger teams of scientists meaning institutional domination of future breakthroughs.
