Step one to setting up a fish aquarium is to obtain the fish tank you desire. You can then fill it with your desired substrate of choice. Sand and gravel is the most common substrate to use in a fish aquarium. You should use an average of 2 to 3 inches of sand or gravel in the aquarium. You can then add the water to your fish tank. Once you have added the water inside the tank you should use an aquarium dechlorinator. This rids of the aquarium and makes it safe for your fish and aquarium plants to live in the water.

Products:

When choosing an aquarium heater, you should figure on needing 5 W of energy per 1 gallon of water in your fish tank. You should set your aquarium heater to 77 to 81°F. This is the average temperature that tropical fish need to thrive in a tank. when choosing an aquarium filter, you can use a sponge filter or a hang on the back filter. Canister filters are only used for larger aquariums of sizes over 125 gallons.

When setting up a sponge filter, you will need an air pump to connect it to. Start by getting yourself some air line and connect the sponge filter to the air pump. The sponge filter will suck water and as the bubbles rise to the surface. Sponge filters are mainly used on smaller aquariums versus hang in the back filters for larger aquariums.

it is a very big deal to make sure that your fish aquarium has a proper cycle process. This is the stage in which you use beneficial bacteria to grow on your filter pad to create an established ecosystem for your fish and inhabitants to live in. There’s multiple different ways to cycle an aquarium. You can cycle a fish aquarium using fish or you can use fish food to create an ammonia source to eventually turn into beneficial bacteria. It is crucial that you figure out the cycle process for your aquarium.

There’s also a method in which you can jumpstart the cycle of your fish aquarium. This is the process in which you get some used filter pad from an other established aquarium and put it inside your tank. By stealing the established bacteria from another tank and putting it into your tank you jumpstart the cycle process. This saves you the time and headache of having to establish a cycle on your own.

It’s always advise that you set up your fish tank to have a live plants because that is closer to a true ecosystem. Your aquarium will have a lot less maintenance if you can master the art of aquarium plants doing well in your tank. Plants are natures natural filtration And we need to try to utilize that. You will find that your fish and inhabitants are a lot healthier with the plants because it’s closer some other nature of what they’re used to.

I started with aquariums as a teenager. I’m 62 and haven’t had one for about 10 years. I developed an algae problem I couldn’t get control of. Got frustrated and quit. A friend is changing hobbies and I just picked up a 20. So lucky to have YouTube. Looking for refresher courses. I subscribed because I am infatuated with your room. It’s so beautiful.

Thank you very much for beautiful tips! What I like most about you is you explained it slowly, calmly and very clearly. I mean each and everything was quite crystel clear. As a newbie to this field, I am trying to research and gain as much knowledge as I can, but as a beginner, sometimes couple of things go above the head when I listen to some experts. This video gave me a great insight. Thanks again!

I'm 2 weeks in on a 75 gallon. I used flake food along with stability to get the cycle started. I'm seeing small traces of ammonia so hopefully I'm on the right track

Thank you so much. This was very helpful ... my daughter is upgrading and wants to give me her tank for my garage .. my goal for it is to use it to video tape crappie and bass baits that I hand-made.

I may have small fish and sand with plants.

1 thing i would like to mention here is that I have tried almost all of the aquarium planted stuffs, but believe me guys, the most effective thing is the most simple and very very very much money saving, that is go with organic dirt and go with best lights you think you can not afford. works wonders and complete stop to purchasing useless stuff. Just give it some time to mature.

Not sure if we are going to use real plants yet. When would we ad those? Trying to set a 55 gallon up for my 10 year old son that is easy maintenance. The filter will be here tomorrow! Already have a tank with lid. I will check out your other videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

A friend of mine recommended, if using fluorescent tubes, having one cool white and one warm light is a less expensive alternative to purchasing full spectrum fluorescent bulbs.
