imagine 2D species trying to explain a 3-Dimensional world.

That shadow analogy makes the most sense. Seeing the visual demonstration made my brain go, "Oh! I get it!"

4D perspective would allow us to "see" both the inside AND outside of any given 3d shape. There would be no inside or outside, they are both visible. And, just as wee see the totality of a circle, a 4d perspective would allow us to see both in, out and around of any given 3d shape.

Imagine, a sphere would be an "open" object.

I can't say that I now "understand" the 4th dimension. But I've been trying to wrap my head around it for a long time, and this video got me closer to understanding than I've ever been before. Thank you! The journey continues.

I could follow you, and i think i actually understand it. This isnt the first vid ive seen about it or explanation ive gotten.

But, trying to imagine a cube shadow...

One of the reasons we cannot imagine what 4D object(or space) looks like is we don't know where the 4th direction goes to. For the evolution directions between the first 4 dimentions(0~3), they are all limited in our 3D world, and we can easily imagine it and see it. But the 4th direction does not exist in 3D world, so we never be able to figure it out, like 2D creatures imagine the direction leading to the 3D world.
In fact, if we have the power to go into the 4D space, then we can enter it from anywhere, any point you are at. Once you have done it, in the eyes of others, you disappeared. When you go back to 3D world, you just suddenly appered from no where.

I was lucky enough to experience 5D at a theme park once with a movie that was playing, and found the 4th dimension to be plastic flailing against my leg and the 5th dimension was water and wind blowing at me. I thought it strange this tech exists outside of scientific labs.

If a 3d object can be convincingly drawn on a 2d Surface, then couldn’t a 4d object be convincingly drawn on a 3D canvas?

Before understanding 4D, imagine yourself to be a 2D creature and perceive yourself in a 2D world.. The shadows don't make sense then

4th Dimension in a nutshell.

1) You can walk through time like you are walking outside in the street trough space.
2) Every object looks like a snail because the 4th dimension kinda "stretch" outwards to a new unknown direction. A human to you in the 4th dimension would look like a snail because you would see many slices of him after each other which gives that snail appearance.

3) You would see your past and ur future at the same time but not sure how far backwards or forwards.
4) You would be able to see through things like x ray vision, houses, people and everything. 3D people see through 2D people because we look from a heigh downwards on them in a direction which dont exist in a 2D world, same thing apply when a 4D people look on a 3D man.

5) In 4th dimension world you can see your past and ur future at the same time but you are still limited because you cant be in several moments in your life at the same time. Like you cant experience the moment of life when you are 10 years old and when you are 20 years old at the same time. You have to choose one "place". Same thing in our 3D world. We cant be in two different places at the same time, this is where 5th dimension comes into play. You can be in several places at the same time and experience everything alltogether.

One fairly intuitive way to visualise the 4th spatial dimension is to imagine that you have a bunch of separate 3D spaces that occupy the same x/y/z-coordinates. So if you wanted to walk through a wall, then you could "fade away" from this space and enter one of the other 3D spaces, then walk forward, and then come back to this space again.

Best description I've understood on 4D so far!

I think of it in terms of watching a tv. When we watch tv we are watching a two dimensional representation of the third dimension. If we were in the fourth dimension we would be watching a 3 dimensional tv representing the 4th dimension. So just think of what a 3 dimensional tv would look like.

The tesseract itself we saw in the video is just a shadow image of the actual tesseract in the 4th dimension

The Tesseract is the shadow of the 4th dimensional shape, not the actual 4th dimensional shape.

Remember it's only a theory. 2D doesn't exist, because it needs to have at least one layer to define it, which makes it 3D anyway.

Love the explanation using shadows and the sun directly overhead. I have been looking into additional dimensions for the past few months and how to splice together slices of the 4D image passing through our 3D world. I was pondering this while sitting in our jacuzzi on a sunny day around noon. I noticed a 10 inch diameter rubber ball floating and casting a shadow on the pool floor, steps, and wall below. I grabbed my phone and recorded it. I will post it soon I think. It really shows how the 2D shadow interacts very differently than the 3D ball itself. It sort of bends and molds when the ball floats over the steps or the ball bumps the wall.

My next goal is to repeat this video, but mix in a mirror. My end goal is to duplicate the sphere moving through a 2D world and taking a slice around the "circle" from all sides where you can stick them together to make what looks like a 3D sphere in 2D. I love the video of the black line with the flashing color changes and when you pan out to the 3D view it is a billiard table with the colored balls moving through the line. I would like to see something similar using slices of the 3D view of the 4D entity moving through our 3D world.

Note: Sun directly above does not equate in my mind if you extrapolate out into the 3D/4D equivalent, because "our sun" is inside our 3D world and just another 3D object to the 4D entity viewing our 3D world.

The 4th can quite simply be described as all directions at once. Let's say you have a box you've never see before, yet you know what the opposite side of the box looks like. In fact you'd know all sides of the box as well as what's inside. Almost like a sense.
