This prayer and the entire dinner scene was one of *the* most powerful scenes I've ever watched. It made me tear up, and cry the next day talking about it. I imagine this is *exactly* how many people & families would choose to spend their final hours... gathered with those they love, eating & drinking, making peace. Thank you for posting.

This was absolutely beautiful. It was actually pretty surprising to see such a pure depicting of religious belief in such a satirical film like Don't Look Up. Yule's character is a portrayal of a deep (yet not fanatical) believer - slightly naive but sincere and open hearted.
And the actor played this small part extremely well!

One thing I absolutely love about this movie is, despite AALLLL the things they satirized and parodied, this prayer was one, if not the only, scenes that is played absolutely straight. There is no eye rolling from the nonbelievers, there is no silliness…. Just a family absolutely terrified at the end, essentially reaching out into the unknown and seeking comfort in any way they can get it.

This scene made me think of a CS Lewis quote: “Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

I’ve been an atheist for over 20 years and this is one of the most touching scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie. Even though I no longer believe in prayer, in this situation I would take all the help I could get to be comforted in my last moments alive. I really love the words he spoke too. That was such a great thing he did for everyone at the table. The whole dinner scene made me tear up. It really reminds us all to be grateful for life and never take it for granted, and being able to spend time with your family and be happy, because that’s the most important thing of all. Treasure every waking moment you have, and every moment you have with your loved ones, cuz it could all end just like that.
