I just got my lil dog neutered and people keep asking y I waited. It was hard to book appointments and I also didn't want to put her thru the pain. She's about to be 3 yrs and it's so sad to see her laying there recovering but I'm glad I waited. Hope my baby lives a long healthy happy life

Thank you for this! I had quite the discussion with my vet when I refused to spay or neuter at 6 months. I've waited til 2 to 3 years, and my golden retrievers have lived happily till 16 and 15. My cats have lived to 17 and 19. That says something, I think.

I believe balanced hormones are the “fountain of youth.” I have a 13 year old intact female dachshund. She has no white hair on her face and is high energy. (She’s been on a raw diet since I rescued her at 5 weeks.) Most older women can relate to not feeling their best when their hormones are no longer balanced. It’s not just the joints, it’s overall health.

Hmmm…I have an 8 month old female golden.
Was planning to wait a year, it now appears maybe not at all?

Dr Jones, We just recently found you on Youtube. We LOVE you! You are so concise, to the point and out of the box. What a delight to listen, watch and learn from you. Keep up your great work.

Positive that the SPCA spaying my dog was the cause of her hip issues that were visible a month after adoption. And the eventual osteosarcoma in the leg that gave her the greatest grief. She is 16.5 now and had the leg amputated last year.

The pound neuter/spay early, both of my dogs died that were rescued from the pound. They had already been fixed when I adopted them. They lived over 12 years, but still, I could've had them longer.

Here in Germany dogs are usually not spayed or neutered until they are fully grown, if at all.

I have waited this time with my female as she needs the hormones to grow and develop. Ashe just turned 1 middle of February. Waiting till Sept or October. Thanks for confirming!

I always go with the general advice and the new boy was taken to the vets for a general check after I rehomed him. Enquired with the vet who said "we don't do that anymore" I knew the science was rapidly changing as my old boy had auto immune issues at the end and this is also connected with neutering and I got him "done" when he was 14 months when I rescued him (did lots of reading and this subject was often cited). That same vet stated he'd do it if I really insist but unless there is a direct issue with unwanted puppies at home or if he was a "humper" then it's not something they do anymore. A year later and my dog is intact and isn't fat, isn't aggressive and doesn't try to shag every female in the park. The myths are hard to shift but I fully agree with the current thinking. And I'd recommend you search for your breed as some for instance the female Golden retriever its now thought should never be "done" fascinating stuff.

I have a 12 years old Westie, I got her 11 months ago, re-homed. She is still entire and I wonder if she should be spayed at this age. My other Westie is 14 and was spayed in early age, she also was re-homed 4 years ago. She was given to me as her former owner didn’t want her anymore.

100% agree with you.
What is really troubling is that puppies and kittens are desexed as young as a couple of months old. Horrific. It's bad all round but for females it's internal😱.

This is a very important video .
Thank you so much for making this known here.👏❤️🇦🇺

I spayed my frenchie/boston before her first heat cycle and she lived a normal life almost to 14 years which is amazing for her breed. At the end congestive heart failure took my baby. I believe there are more factors to it.

At least 2 years, especially Large Breeds.
We waited 2 1/2 years for our Golden.

UK. The advice is half way between the first and second heat.
That would have made Molly 9 months old so I let it run.
She had 3 heats and was around 2 when she had it done.
Heats are definitely a pain but the research (and common sense) suggests it's definitely worth holding off until they are mature.
Get them some panties to help keep the house clean and prevent the boys getting in there

But what do you do if in your contract with a it says you have to fix them sooner?
