NEW PS5 Home Screen Beta Gets New Features. | More PS1 And PS2 Classics Coming. - [LTPS #627]

This week in the PlayStation landscape we have a lot of updates. Three different kinds! We have the beta for the updated Explore tab, which just got some new widgets. Then we have the Discord calling functionality turned on server-side for everyone. And then we also had a PlayStation Portal firmware update for public Wi-Fi support. Elsewhere throughout the week we had the Nintendo Direct which was still a host to a plentiful amount of third party games, and the LRG livestream that confirmed more Classic games coming back. Then there's Shawn Layden! The former SIEA CEO who thinks he's got the AAA games business all figured out. So we discuss that as well. Man, these descriptions are really getting long nowadays. Shawn Layden isn't wrong. There was nothing wrong with 6-15 hour games. Hell even PS2 era games where you can just basically speedrun through them in like 3-5 hours I enjoy. I don't have enough time for longer games anymore. If it makes them cheaper too, even better.

It's absolutely gobstopping that the PS4 still has more personalization features (folders, screenshot backgrounds) than the PS5. Sony really is the Microsoft of their own OS.

I don't know about you, but I've been gaming for the past 30 years... I never asked for each game to be BIGGER, I asked for them to be BETTER... I am the exact target person Shawn L. is speaking about. I have more money now but I don't buy games because of a gigantic backlog... I probably have time now for 3-4 games every year. Moving to more condensed games is the way to go, but I feel the industry is too focused on what others do that nobody dares to provide a smaller game, so they focus on quantity over quality. We seem to be getting to a diminishing return point with graphics so I wouldn't mind if this generation goes for 10-12 years in total... Give me better experiences, graphics are good for the moment.

I like longer games. There is no rush, just play at your own speed. I'd rather have more hours for the money. So long as it was still engaging and not dragging.
