I have never in my life except back in the early wars years the number of 3, 4, 5 alarm fires in NY. I guess it is so congested with all types of occupancies crammed into buildings that are falling apart and have been renovated and patched so many times. As many old congested deteriorating buildings in NYC, it has to be impossible to maintain (enforce) any kind of regulations and safety measures. Dispatcher absolutely phenomenal!

Great video. Thanks for no annoying play by play.

Great dispatching! There's so much more going on than dispatch handling the fire alone.

They're tracking changes in unit assignment, relaying radio traffic and moving units around the city to cover unmanned stations emptied out due to the run response, and notifying off duty personnel to man reserve units.

At the same time there are still all kinds of fires happening, traffic accidents, medical calls, rescues, you name dispatch is handling it. What a great way to make a living!

If you have a knack for multi tasking, a cool head in emergencies and are a good communicator, apply for an open position in fire dispatch. It's one of the best jobs in the fire service.

During the first few minutes it is easy to understand why this is a 5 alarm fire! Sorry for Christa, hope the insurance will pay for the damage. And in action again: the Command Post out of the suitcase at 1:35! I guess this piece of equipment is typical for the FDNY, no other Fire Dept. has it. At any rate, someone would have to explain how this thing works! Flashover at 10:35! All the best!
Oh, I forget: we also had one spectacular fire In Germany a week ago. Industrial fire in Berlin - Lichterfelde, the galvanization plant belonging to Diehl Defence was burning, took two days to put it out!

NYFD is simply the Best They can Drop a 3rd Alarm an it's More Equipment than most U.S.Cites On a third Alarm they can bring 400 Men Incredible with A Enormous amount of Man Power to spare

The color of that smoke billowing out of the Market is not encouraging. A weird brown toxic looking cloud.

Are there fans blowing air in, so the smoke is forced out?

Have they had Flashover Training recently?

Are they attacking the Rear fire from the Rear or they trying to get to it from the front?

Something tells me there isn't any water being used at all. SOP so far! Typical!

A straight stream of water being squirt blindly into the smoke with no idea where the fire actually is. Maybe they have been waiting for it to come to them from the Rear!

If ever there was a time for Vertical Venting, this is it!

Cooling the smoke with all those streams?

18:00 And they are accomplishing What?

They let it spread to the exposures! That's great! Go back to the beginning and see how small this fire was in this one-story structure.
