CNN's Ivan Watson details a remarkable day and a half where Russia faced the threat of an armed insurrection, with President Vladimir Putin vowing to punish Wagner fighters marching toward Moscow and occupying cities along the way -- before a sudden deal with Belarus seemed to defuse the crisis as rapidly as it emerged. #CNN #News

it seems surreal to see soldiers laying under cover with machine guns or invading a city with tanks and in the same frame seeing civillians hanging out in shorts drinking coffee while filming it on their phone...

I just want to point out that Wagner took more territory in Russia in one day than they did in Ukraine in over 8 months.

Prigozhin was showing Putin how to organize a parade with more than one tank.

Under a power struggle back in the East Roman Empire one of the fractions brought in a group of mercenaries. When they arrived they were told they weren't needed and could go away again something that made them angry -the mercenaries were a group called the Vandals and everybody knows the term "vandalism".

Let's all remember that The Stable Genius's initial assessment of Putin's invasion of Ukraine is that it was a "genius" move. Is that guy ever wrong about anything!?

_"What happened?"_ Prigozhin threatening with dire consequences if Shoigu stole his company is exactly what happened. He also made Putin lose his face, but that was an unintended consequence.

The Russian copium in these comments is hilarious. You do realize that Putin had to make a deal to end Wagner's coup right? That he went from calling Prigozhin a traitor to agreeing to some of Prigozhin's demands within a couple of hours? You don't seem to understand that the charge of treason means the death penalty, if you're accusing someone of that and then make a deal with him that reveals how weak your regime is. This is the biggest embarrassment in all of Putin's reign

He said he did all this for revenge for his troops, but this deal that he made doesn’t benefit him or his troops. He had the opportunity and support.

At the end of the day, it's just one gang fighting another gang in good old fashion gang warfare

The fact that Russia thinks they can attack a country but can't be attacked on their homeland is baffling

I fully expect prighozin to meet with an unfortunate accident sometime in the very near future. There is no dissent in Putins Russia. I wonder what gave him the idea to fo this and why he reversed course so quickly.

Still something off/fishy about this whole thing!

Are there any editors left at CNN? It's a coup not an insurrection! Here's a refresher for you:
An insurrection refers to a violent uprising or rebellion by a group of people against an established authority or government, often with the aim of overthrowing or challenging its power, whereas a coup, short for "coup d'état, " typically involves a sudden, illegal seizure of government power by a faction within the existing ruling structure, such as the military or a political group, often resulting in the removal or replacement of the current leadership.

I used to disbelieve what my Ukrainian friends told me that Putin was a moderate in Russia. Seeing how popular Wagner is among the Russian people, I knew he was telling the truth.

He has to be very careful from now on. Eat fruits he picks from a tree himself, take food that have gone through toxicology tests, don't go near the edge of the platform in a subway station, be aware of people who are newly friendly to him. And most important of all, his cell phone. That will tell others where he is. Well... what to do?
