I mean without hearing aid device he used. Im ltcl level pianist and i often have to play without hearing the sound because i practiced all night long and it work just fine, especially if you have perfect pitch that could imagine a sound inside your head moreover writing a piece doesn't really need hearing as much if you excel in chords that matches that goes in harmony. For example if you write a piece in g minor chord having a normal E would absolutly sound off, but this deeply depend on which major/minor keys you are in
