As far as I know the Cello was his favourite instrument and the one he was most expert at.

Ask a singer if Bach understood the voice well. Its very uncomfortable usually and not so natural to most voices.

He did not created a genre. It's not out of nothing. Bach combined very wisely elements, which were very there around him. The cello suites are quite close to german solo viol repertoire, in the method of their composition.
